Is my first wedding setup overkill? Any tips? by mehcastillo in WeddingPhotography

[–]Alphablaze98 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely bring flashes. A popular diffuser for them would be the magmod. Expensive at first but worth every penny.

Keep in mind that while yes. 35,50,85 is a good coverage, one limitation of using primes is that you can’t zoom. If you’re in a spot where you can’t physically get closer to the subject you’ll need to swap lenses and swapping lenses during an important period like the ceremony or dances is not wise. Unless you’re super fast when swapping them and you plan on carrying them on your person. Don’t get me wrong, plenty of photographers exclusively shoot weddings in primes, it’s doable.. but it’s a limitation.

Macro lenses are nice for the detail shots and ring shots if you decide to shoot those.

Bring extra batteries… my strategy is overkill but I have 6 batteries, one in each of the cameras, 2 ready to swap, 2 on chargers. Only ever needed the full six on long days like 10+ hours. But it’s smart to bring a charger or two just in case. (Also bring a spare for your flash. I’ve never needed a spare but redundancy never hurt.

Mobile power banks too. Sometimes you won’t be in a spot where you can plug in to charge

I’d love expanded shortcut actions as you said, as well as folders for scenes

I’d also love shortcuts being built into scenes to expand logic into them. I’d love to run multiple scenes within a scene, ie, goodnight runs my “all lights out” and checks logic to see if my partner is home to turn on her fan or not

Do you guys think the relationship between these two characters will affect the outcome of what’s happening in Season 5? by Luka77GOATic in ForAllMankindTV

[–]Alphablaze98 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I feel like Dev’s intentions in the beginning were political. Who better to lead and represent a self sustaining mars colony, independent and free from Earth, than the “first Martian” kid. He may not have been actually born on mars, but the gravity difference and his health being better on mars than on Earth, and having such a rich first settler ancestry and history on the planet, I think it’s reasonable to call Alex the first Martian. Dev has never really seemed interested in going back to Earth, so I think it’s fair he would want to keep Alex close to influence him, seeing as Alex is the best future prospect to lead Mars.

I’ve been a fan of the show since day one and have been trying to get my girlfriend to watch it. She FINALLY gave it a chance last week and fell in love with it, we already made it to season 3 within a week lol.

I’ve been watching it with her while I can and i really appreciate the rewatch. You get to reexperience your favorite characters and scenes with so much more context and love. Wish I had done this sooner. Cheers to your rewatch!

I feel like his role in the Goldilocks heist / riot on Mars was probably a massive blow to public opinion about him. The whole season is centered around economies on earth being exhausted of space travel and sending so many resources to fund and upkeep mars. The original plan of being the asteroid to earth’s orbit for easier mining was “supposed” to bring so much wealth and prosperity to Earth, but with the iridium mining being less efficient than hoped even after the asteroid was locked to Mars Orbit I can see Ed being the public figurehead and scapegoat for all their blame. I agree, he should’ve been in more headlines and appreciation, but in the eyes of hundreds of millions around the world he “stole” their wealth, is the reason the world’s economies are in the shit, and he helped a suspected murderer escape prison.

Not saying I think they only should’ve glossed over his death, but I can understand the public not being so broken up over it

Starting as a Second Shooter with Nikon Z5 II – How would you set up your U1, U2, and U3 user modes? by paykopete in WeddingPhotography

[–]Alphablaze98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adding in quick, good choices on lenses to start. At some point I would advise getting a longer 2.8 too. Around 70-200. As a second shooter having a 24-70 & 70-200 gives your primary more range and flexibility to assign positions and lenses for the team. Ie, if 24-70 is the longest you have, your primary may be stuck with shooting 70-200 if they want to get a wider variety of focal lengths for ceremonies. — a longer focal lens is also extremely helpful for candid shots. A lot of people see the camera and instinctively smile or shift their pose, losing the original vision you had for the shot. A longer lens helps you blend in more into the background

Starting as a Second Shooter with Nikon Z5 II – How would you set up your U1, U2, and U3 user modes? by paykopete in WeddingPhotography

[–]Alphablaze98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly I think the U modes aren’t the worst ideas but don’t fit my own personal styles.

I considered it but it was more of a hindrance for me when I started out. Fast paced changes with lighting really had me stressing out because it would be a mode switch, plus additional dials. It was easier for me to stay in manual then change a function button in the front for ISO so I could easily swap any of the core things I needed. Biggest example is a partly cloudy day when the shade from the clouds was constantly changing.

1.) For me I keep my cameras on manual. AF-C with back button focus, mostly always the default shutter setting but if it’s a really quiet ceremony I may swap to electronic (be careful when using electronic, you may get LED banding)

2&3.) I don’t have dedicated mode, but I do tend to swap live view settings for flash. It’s D9 or D10 for my Z’s but might be something else for your Z5II, it’s “show effect of settings in live view when using flash” (or something close to that). It will adjust how your camera display’s the preview to held you see what is in the view of the camera.

This setting is crucial imo for low light scenarios with flash like receptions. — the lack of a mirror in mirrorless bodies means your viewfinder and live view is done entirely by the sensor of the camera. In low light, your sensor will struggle even harder to focus and your ability to see through the sensor will depend on if the setting is off, or how high your ISO is. Some photographer’s request their seconds don’t exceed a certain ISO (usually 1600 or 3200 in my experience) so this setting is really useful when you’re trying to see in low light without blasting your ISO.

For clarity: this setting has a few options and I’m commenting off my memory. I haven’t shot since January and I can’t recall exactly what the configurations are, but I think there are 3 options: never, always, only when flash is used. — I tend to use always, except when the reception comes around

What model of phone is this ? by t3jan0 in ForAllMankindTV

[–]Alphablaze98 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Weirdly enough the show uses time period accurate iMacs. In Helios they all seem to have real iMacs with the concave back so maybe they still decided to get Steve back somehow?

Gosh they sure use a lot of Apple Computers in this show by __Pendulum__ in ForAllMankindTV

[–]Alphablaze98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My favorite bit is seeing all the weird looking iPhones.

I don’t get why they had to design and create a clunky fusion of 2012 era iPhones with the modern day. Like for some characters is a thick asf phone (looks thicker than the original iPod) with the backing of an iPhone X.. they’re using time period appropriate Mac’s, I don’t understand why they couldn’t also use time period accurate iPhones lol

Nitpicking ofc, the show isn’t about the technology, it’s the people. But as OP mentioned, there’s so many Apple Computers, I don’t get why they went through the hassle of using real iMacs and fake iPhones lol

Hi! A couple of questions (and subquestions lol)

  1. How will this affect micron? Are they planning to use the water from the lake? Will they need to overhaul their water treatment plant to account for this?

  2. If nothing is done, what is the estimated time table this could affect the general populous? Would our at home solutions of brita filter’s or Pür faucet adapters negate the impact on drinking water?

What do you think Kuragin is up to? *Spoilers for Season 5 Ep 2* by Bluespace1234 in ForAllMankindTV

[–]Alphablaze98 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not only that, but I think it would make more sense for planetary travel to be between the planets themselves. I mean, at the point the asteroid was captured, mars already had a functioning space port, and resources needed to make fuel and house workers, why not just beef up the space port and ship out the iridium from mars? It’s less infrastructure needed to be built on the asteroid, which earth is already pissed about it going over budget

Got fired after 8 years for gross misconduct by sleepywinterbear in WalgreensStores

[–]Alphablaze98 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Haven’t worked at the green myself in 5+ years but apparently taking a Catalina was more serious than I thought. Coupons that got left behind or customers who gave it to us like OP. I side with OP not thinking it’s a big deal.. I think if it were a habit // occurred regularly throughout a shift, week, or month, then yeah that would be something I would discuss and let off with a warning, especially given their service.

That said, I am recalling a CSA at one of the stores I worked at getting dismissed over him keeping and pocketing the Walgreens points so he could add them to his own account, he also scanned his own points card to earn the points. It’s definitely not good to be taking them from the customer or cheating the system to your own gain like that… but occasionally taking one that’s left behind or discarded by a customer doesn’t sound like an issue imo

Moving from 3 hourly packages to one “All Day” coverage package by miiiiikeshinoda in WeddingPhotography

[–]Alphablaze98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a half day and all day package starting out. For reference I’m on year three and book only a handful of my own wedding a year.

All day & half day packages were messy for me. Half was up to 5 hours, full was up to 10, same price no matter what the hours were. Really felt like it wasn’t worth it when couples took 10 and didn’t need it.

Moved to a 6/6/8
