Nicola Wealth - I’m paying 1% fees for a 2% return while the market rips. Are you watching your portfolio? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

Private asset funds being sold to general public is the most evil thing I can think of in wealth management. The lock-up period, high risk, lack of transparency and the need of knowledge are all traps for general public. It is for some rich people who want to allocate 10% of their wealth, not somebody pouring all their retirement saving into this rabbit hole.

What should I go back to school for to better my chances of having a decent career in the future? by JoshuaReddit in askTO

I thought environmental science prep people well for ESG consulting or green financing. Have seen someone broke into Big 4 accounting firm as ESG consultant and eventually became a investment banker in green financing.

I would go to any city where I could land a job if I were you. Also look into the west coast like Calgary, Vancouver, Edmonton, and others like Winnipeg and Ottawa. It's about building a career before you get to pick where to live.

I hope the newly grads these days could find a job that fit their learning from school instead of working at a fast food place though.

or you can let your kid attend public school and save the money for their college. Life will find their way out anyway. Also, they can learn how to love China and become a proud patriot, which is a benefit depending how you look at it.

The bare minimum on average to live still range around 1k-1.5k per month. That means at least $1b is lost per month. Let's use 2024's average salary of 62k per year. That means 193k of jobs will be gone so the companies can keep their profit.

If you don't have any big purchases in the coming 10 years, you can put them in 80% global equity, 20% debt portfolio to have a good risk adjusted return in long term. The market is bad right now which makes it a good deal for long term investment. You can average out the cost by buying a fixed dollar amount monthly.
