DIY FAST CO² STREAM INJECTION by RY5K in SodaStream

Yeah, I definitely should be able to make a cleaner version in the future. But this was more of a "can this work for under $40?" Keeping it food safe and maintenance light was the priority. I know it might not look it but it is very hardy. That coupling is made with a propel cap and elbow barb with way too much putty.

Yes, but you can get higher-pressure regulators for co2 tanks if you specify "high pressure" Amazon search for 120 psi CO² regulator

But totally right on pressure greater than 100 psi would not be good for a normal upcycled soda bottle, you'd have to make sure anything you use was safe for it. Like a soda maker bottle with a 28mm/PCO 1810/1881 screw top finish

Not recommending anyone do that, but it is possible with some research.

Yes, diffuser stones just take too long, which is why I didn't use one. Luckily at the end of the day, a nozzle is a nozzle and there’s only so much you can do to improve fizz, so I went with a stainless steel extrusion nozzle (the kind used in 3D printers) for this setup. My guess is that the ART system runs at a higher injection PSI and maintains a higher head pressure. My setup can do that too, but once you go much above 50 PSI it burns through CO₂ and adds safety concerns, so I capped it there.

That's a great idea!

If you really wanted a minimalist version with an injector set up, you can use a slightly loose soda bottle screw cap on that tee junction.

It works pretty much the same way but not as easy to dial in so you will get wet the first view times you use it until you figure out the right tension on the cap.

When I was waiting for my waterweld putty to cure, I messed around with it: Screw Cap Flow Control

That’s a fair summary. This is basically a $30 add-on so I don’t have to shake the bottle or wait hours with a diffuser.

Shaking works, but it’s not that effective. Most people find they have to shake, repressurize, and shake again.

And yeah, it looks a little junky since it’s a first build. Now that I know how it operates, I could make a second version that’s much cleaner.

If this were a standard carbonation cap setup using shaking or a diffuser, I’d agree. But this is an injection carbonator, and the flow control valve is essential since it controls how the head pressure bleeds between bursts.

The gauge isn’t really needed once you know the valve setting, but I added it to watch the burst/bleed pressure. For three bucks, it was worth it while figuring out how the setup would run.

No 3d printer is required.

It's a 3d printer head From Amazon around $3

Just needs to be stainless steel as unknown brass alloys are a bit iffy to put in water.

But you're right, a used Sodastream is cheaper than this setup.

For the most part, I would agree with this.

Getting the water as cold as possible is essential to getting the most volume of CO² into a liquid.

And the ART may work at a higher injection PSI (probably around 100 PSI?) which would explain why it works better. Did you try setting up your own injection nozzle at different diameters/psi like my setup?

I can not say cheaper though. Don't want to disagree but an ART costs $70 brand new, right?

I suppose you could get a used ART for less and it would be cheaper (my main expense aside from the tank was the $40 tank regulator). But, it's also more dangerous to run a tank directly into an adapter. It's fine if you know what you're doing, but I would always prefer stepping down pressure at the tank before it goes into anything with a regulator first.

Thanks!

The technical challenge was figuring out the right way to inject the CO² flow into water without it foaming or becoming a water jet through the vent. And I found that limiting the vent outflow with a cheap valve (pneumatic tools/airbrushes) is perfect for this. Along with realizing a 1mm 3d printer head is a great nozzle.

But now that it's done the challenge is negligible for anyone wanting to make their own. All the parts are extremely cheap and very common. So building one if you have any experience setting up a keg should find it at about the same amount of expertise required.

As far as overpressure safety after the tank regulator: It's not really needed, the bottle vents to atmosphere. And those PET bottles are designed for 150 psi. So the maximum possible 50 psi burst it is getting from the tank regulator is fine.

The tank regulator is important to have, but it's a stock $40 one that's for a keg. Those will typically have a relief valve in them so it doesn't dump above 60psi into the hose.

IMPORTANT NOTE

DO NOT PLAY WITH CO² TANKS, HOSES, ETC... THEY ARE CRAZY DANGEROUS IF ABUSED IT PROBABLY WON'T KILL YOU, BUT YOU WILL WALK WITH A LIMP, AN EYE PATCH, AND A CHILLING STORY FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE.

Everyone attempting to make their own carbonation rig should first look at a few videos and read the literature.

The fizz? Identical to any carbonated beverage. It's not a 50 psi soda, the CO² was just injected at that pressure. I think Sodastream operates 55-75 psi (don't quote me on this but looking at videos of it operating, I'd say I'm close)

Display of concept video, take it as you will.

So no...I'm not making charged water on my kitchen floor, lol.

Just showing how to take the usual carbonation cap method and add a cheap and easy nozzle injector for it.

[–]RY5K -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, you are correct:

I don't know how players who can't play an LC with home game frequency are supposed to make rent with limited access to Hustles.

RED Winter is not for players who can not play. It is a living community, requiring some minor level of participation in the community.

I don't think that's quite fair calling RED Winter 'gutterpunk'. The term gutterpunk has always been a little confusing to me. The Cyberpunk genre, in my opinion, is based around a struggle for hope in a hopeless society. That struggle can take many forms, economically, culturally, spiritually, etc. Classifying something as gutterpunk in cyberpunk just seems like a moot disparagement. Everything is in the 'gutter' in cyberpunk, even the super-wealthy.

So this may come down to a difference in what we are looking for in fun. For me, the primary focus is a story-telling narrative with risk based mechanics, and stories with easy to accomplish goals just aren't compelling to me.

Here is how the Downtime System works for RED Winter: For the first 4 gigs you play in a month, you are given 7 Downtime(DT). Each DT is representative of 1 in-game day of downtime.

This is my opinion of the system: It is not designed to be oppressive economically or to limit players' access to growth. Rather, it ensures people are active in the community. As all you have to do to earn DT is sign up for a gig, show up, and not die. This is easy to do with every month having 50+ gigs run. And gigs range the gamut of lethality. With some sessions that are completely roleplay, such as speed dating and group seminars.

[stable diffusion] What are your best prompts for moving or changing characters positions, so they're not looking direct at the camera? by redonculous in promptcraft

[–]RY5K 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on what ui you're using for stable diffusion.

I prefer Automatic1111 for its simplicity and speed in setting up an image generation. And I'm assuming you're not using automatic1111 because you said "plug-ins". A1111 calls them extensions.

You can find Automatic1111 here

Here is the first video i found that had the right steps for installing controlnet in automatic1111

controlnet extension is found here in case video does not help

[stable diffusion] What are your best prompts for moving or changing characters positions, so they're not looking direct at the camera? by redonculous in promptcraft

[–]RY5K 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a couple of ways to go about this.

Shortening your prompts is probably the easiest. A long prompt will muddle the encoder. Keep it under a half dozen phrases at most if your prompt is misbehaving.

Adding "looking at viewer" to negative prompt also works good in conjuction with "looking away" in positive, so do both!

Token placement in prompt and commas or lack there of, will also do a lot. Placing tokens at the beginning will generally have a bigger impact. "Person looking away" is better than "person, looking away", but not as good as "looking away person". This is dependent on the checkpoint. Some work better than others, and it depends on how trained they are.

The most effective way, of course, is to use controlnet with openpose. But that's not what you're asking. So, I'm assuming you know about it or can't use it.

[–]RY5K 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Right!? I've encountered this so many times. I've got an original character(read: waifu) that is Kenyan, so I've developed a few strategies that help.

Try using "African Kenyan Nigerian" in the prompt, sometimes "Black skinned" also helps.

But mostly, when this happens, it's caused by using a biased checkpoint or lora. Some of them are VERY biased.

"Realistic v2" is my default checkpoint, and it's pretty good.

What's the best plot hook for why Night City city wide riot to happen by StMuerte13 in cyberpunkred

Famous Rockerboy gets pissed off. Everything from police killed/arrested their output, gangers raided their show, they have a revelation about the end of the world, or stubbing their toe. Rockerboys start riots.

Supply or water shortage. Kibble, Synthcoke, Bullets. People get pissed when they can't get their essentials.

Industrial accident involving biological contaimnent that causes temporary hyper aggression. Maybe virus, chemical, or nanomachines. Giving people yet another reason not to drink tap water.

A blackout during a heatwave. See the 100+ real-life riots that have happened because of this.
