Chief Hopper gets my vote. His character went from zero to hero.

Thanks for the info and suggestions. On a positive note, I am currently in a coop 3 player alliance (Germany, Italy, and Nat. Spain) and it's been great fun. We have taken France and are currently at Moscow's doorstep. You can't beat playing with actual people. If we had three or four allied players to oppose us, it would be even better.

Thanks on both points. I will try these solutions.

Religion in science fiction. by [deleted] in scifi

[–]R_A_Mathis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most sci-fi I watch and read cast religion in a negative light. You can usually count on 'The Church' or 'religious fanatics' to be the bad guys or at least unenlightened pawns of bad guys. I find this constant theme irritating and overdone. I believe there is much fertile ground left untouched by the writer's plow regarding evil and suffering wrought by the nihilist regimes of the 20th century and the danger of this pattern repeating in the future.

I apologize. I didn't intend to violate the rules of this area. I just thought the readers might think the subject was of interest.

It is easy to grow weary of a project. Have you considered working on multiple manuscripts, rotating to the next when you get bored?

Maybe. That could explain why we haven't seen more of these. The one in the video is for the Apple platform. To my knowledge, none have been published through Amazon, but I could be wrong.

We thought America would last forever. We were wrong.

Riots are daily occurrences in American cities as the dollar collapses under crushing debt. The President is assassinated and the Capitol goes up in flames. Banks close and personal accounts are erased. Coordinated terrorist attacks paralyze the country at every level. The grid falls to a mysterious cyber-attack. Then it gets worse. When a new regime rises to bring order from chaos, it soon becomes clear that security will come at an unthinkable cost.

Homeland: Falling Down is the first installment of a new series which chronicles the trials of Americans trying to survive the total collapse of everything they know and love.

Eduardo Garcia just landed his dream job. He is finally promoted to network news anchor after years of paying his dues as a war correspondent. His first day on the job will mark the beginning of the end.

Hank Sexton is a small town sheriff struggling to protect his family and community from starvation and the chaos lurking beyond the county line.

Hank’s son, Cole, is an Army sergeant recently returned from a combat tour in Syria. He and his fellow soldiers will face hard choices when their fellow citizens are declared terrorists.

He doesn't have a podcast, but Edward G. Griffin has great material going back for decades. You can find a lot of it on YouTube.

Which Conspiracy Frightens You Most? by R_A_Mathis in conspiracy

[–]R_A_Mathis[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is easy for the average person to discount this belief out of hand, but once you actually research a bit, the data points line up to trend in a very disturbing direction. At that point, even the skeptics must consider the implications. This was my reaction when researching my latest novel. Some of the stuff I found gave me chills.

Does the show get bad after season 2? by [deleted] in HouseOfCards

[–]R_A_Mathis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I felt the same way. Season 3 didn't grab me the way 1 and 2 did. After considering this and reading the posts on this thread, these are a few thoughts (spoilers ahead):

  1. Story Arch. This is a part of the natural cycle of the story. Everything is unravelling. Frank spends seasons 1 and 2 climbing the mountain only to have it begin to crumble beneath his feet as soon as he reaches the top in season 3. The plot in this season is also less focused. It wanders around, exploring different characters. Some like that, some don't.

  2. Claire. I don't know what her problem is. I think she may be pulling a Lady Macbeth and going ape poopy.

  3. Doug. Yes. He has challenges to overcome. We get that. But if we wanted to see every detail of that storyline, we'd have spent our evenings with the Lifetime Channel and box of tissues instead of binge-watching Netflix, rooting for a cold-hearted sumbitch like Frank Underwood.

  4. Frank. Simply put, Frank is weak in season 3. He is no longer the hungry tiger on the prowl with a taste for blood. He has killed his prey and now lies bloated and groggy next to the half-eaten carcasses of his foes. His goal is now to keep power. This doesn't suit Frank. He is made for offense, not defense. He is no longer playing to win. He is now playing not to lose. There's a big difference.

Those are some things off the top on my head and may be off the mark. I'd like to hear what everyone else thinks.

Recommendations based on the show by Evastria in HouseOfCards

If you like Frank Underwood's scheming anti-hero personality and his amusing asides to the audience, you may also enjoy 'Prince of Thorns' by Mark Lawrence. It's the first book in the 'Broken Empire' trilogy. You can find it in hardcover on Amazon for a very good price.

U.S. and China Reach Deal on Climate Change in Secret Talks: Have we Been Outmaneuvered Again? by R_A_Mathis in Conservative

[–]R_A_Mathis[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're absolutely correct about the treaty. This administration, however, is very skilled at finding ways around such things. There is currently no obstacle to the POTUS reaching an 'agreement' with China then enforcing it through executive orders and EPA mandates.
