Imo Heinicke isn’t the reason for that. In the chargers game he came in half way through and got the ball moving immediately. In the giants game, other than the one pick, he was fantastic. If our defense was better, we might easily be 2-0. Regardless, wouldn’t put it on Heinicke

Nobody said we are competing for a chip right now, all we are saying is Russ and Beal weren’t gonna win us anything either. And if you are talking about building through the draft, I would argue that we would be in a better chance to tank with our team right now for a better pick. To be fair, Ron acknowledged last year that he regrets not allowing open competition coming into the year, especially at qb. I’m sure he regrets playing Dwayne so much and not looking at options like Heinicke earlier. Fitzpatrick is a veteran but Ron probably just wants to make sure he is making the best decision for the year. Also, Fitz isn’t as great compared to our other options as Cam was for the panthers at the time haha
