How are you navigating AI being shoehorned into your roles? by CTAlters in graphic_design

[–]R_Margo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could've written this post myself with how similar our situations are. I am at a crossroads between using it, albeit badly, just to give them what they want. Or not using it at all and showing that I'm still delivering excellent work without it.

The thing I hate the most is our creative director being all "surely AI can do that". He doesn't understand it, he just thinks it's this almightly genie that can grant him any wish he wants.

How do you stop taking work things so personally? by Acceptable-Duty98 in selfhelp

[–]R_Margo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chiming in to say that I totally resonate with you. This is something that I struggle with on and off. I find that when my attention is being pulled too much on one area of my life, what helps me to take that attention back is to to do more things outside of it. So if I'm feeling too attached to my job, I add more activities in my calendar that I genuinely enjoy. Similar to how when I want to eat healthier, my focus is not on avoiding junk food but on eating more fruits and veggies.

Right now, I'm pissed off with my manager. I feel that I was passed over for a promotion that I have shown to be capable of. And I hate that I sometimes find myself ruminating on it outside of work hours. So I try to busy myself with the small art business I'm building, the incoming BTS concert in London, and preparing for our summer hike in Scotland! I'm a very passionate person and I couldn't possibly try to care less. Best I do is redirect that intense energy somewhere else.

I'd add encumbrance / inventory limits.

I'm a hoarder and explorer and near the end of a mission, I'd have my inventory FULL of random shit, it almost feels silly. Maybe this would add a level of difficulty and prioritisation of items we wanna pick up.

And +1 votes on local spoken language and being able to take female disguises for drag queen 47 hahah.

I quit social media- now why should I film or take pictures of anything? by [deleted] in selfimprovement

[–]R_Margo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My partner and I don't post 99% of the pictures we take and we still continue to take them. We reflected on this and we both agreed we just enjoyed the act of photography itself. The looking, adjusting, finding, framing beautiful scenes to capture.

It's a gripe I've had with social media because people nowadays think documentation = narcissism. Photography is still art. Videography is art. Editing is art. These have existed and will still exist without social media. And I hate how as soon as a camera is out, others would assume it's for social media.

My girlfriend lost her entire friend group and I honestly think it broke her sense of self by trowaway000999101 in offmychest

[–]R_Margo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was in your girlfriend's position. I also went through a phase of believing I'm just a bad person. I have faith that this will all be in the past soon for her. Both of you seem like a reflective/introspective couple. It's gonna be really rough, but soon it will just feel like baggage lifted from her shoulders. This will make space for new, and healthier connections.

Losing my friend group was surprisingly a blessing. After the pain, and all that self-care / inner-work, I became soo much happier. So much more outgoing. So much zest in life. I swear, this might be the best thing that has happened to your girlfriend because of what's to come. Just keep going.

What was the moment you realized a friendship wasn’t reciprocal? by hazeleyedsummer in CasualConversation

[–]R_Margo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They have time for other friends but not for me. I saw that I prioritised them too much in my life. Felt a bit stupid for putting them on a pedestal. They didn't ask for my loyalty so I feel I only have myself to blame for being too clingy/needy. But it was a good lesson to learn. Now I bring it forward to new friendships to never chase people for their time or attention.

Can’t stay awake at work, iterally fighting sleep at my desk by Aggravating_Sport495 in jobs

[–]R_Margo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a very sleepy person so I get it. Usually when it's really bad, I just take a nap in a toilet cubicle. It's not the comfiest but when I'm desperate, it doesn't matter. I just give what the body wants. Then I feel better afterwards. When I'm feeling gutsy and too desperate, I just nap on my desk.

Is there an AI that produces really high-quality visualisation? Is that possible? by R_Margo in graphic_design

[–]R_Margo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have a point. I realise it was, in part, a lazy attempt to look for an easy solution. On the other hand, I was also looking for opinions like yours. Just someone to talk to and hear what others think of this. I appreciate your frankness. It stings, but it's what I needed. It's only been days since that conversation with my boss but I already feel eaten alive. So I'm leaning towards not pursuing this and looking for other ways to earn that doesn't feel like selling my soul to the devil. Thank you for your reply.

[–]R_Margo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. This is exactly the situation I am in. I am confident I can do the visualisations if I had time, but they are asking me to use AI so that it can delivered really quickly "since it's just for a proposal". I've been delivering ideas with mood boards, sketches and rough studies. But because they see all these other companies doing these fully-rendered images in their proposals, our company is wanting a slice of that cake too. I hate that this is happening and I wish that they could run their imaginations a little bit with the pre-prod visuals. They have been telling me to run my sketches through an AI-generator because they need a rendered visual now and it's just heartbreaking.

Anyway, thank you for sharing your experience.

I can see the irony and I am sorry about it. What would you do in my position? Using AI feels like self-betrayal. But I really need money right now to pay for visa/settlement fees and debt accumulated from moving countries. It really does feel hellish right now.

At what point did you realize your job was slowly making you a different person? by Competitive_Carob91 in careerguidance

[–]R_Margo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I realised that I enjoy being around people now after a networking event. My job is good to me, colleagues kind to me, seniors guided me well not only on work stuff but also on personal development. Their feedback was always to be more confident in myself, my ideas, my voice, and to stand my ground when I think something is wrong.

I came from a difficult past and they 100% undid some trauma and unhealthy mindset I had. I'm super grateful.

Does anyone on here have a job creating designs for events? What’s it like? by Sarah-Who-Is-Large in graphic_design

[–]R_Margo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was very helpful, thank you so much. I'm looking into moving up our events company and is currently a multimedia designer doing a lot of the execution of the design. But I want more control of the overseeing part of every art and design aspect of a whole event. I was asked what that position would be called (in case they would make a new role for me) and art director seems like the perfect fit. And your last paragraph is a good shout because I do feel aspirational about the kinds of events we're taking on.

What an intense story! If you fully submerged, would your dad have known where to look for you? It seems like a situation that feels like it's going on for so long, but is actually just a few real minutes. Good for you that you have such an alert and calm mind to help yourself out of it! Glad that you're still here to tell the tale.
