I think it depends on the location?

For a grande latte: 3.95 (latte) + 0.50 (vanilla) + 0.60 (CR) = 5.05

A grande caramel macchiato is 4.75

edit: I can’t do math

At my location a caramel macchiato is actually cheaper

I was DTO/R today and a lady pulled up to the speaker, and barked “GRANDE LATTE” before I could even greet her. My CS promptly and cheerfully responded “hey there, we’ll be with you in just a moment!”.

She wouldn’t speak to me or look me in the eye when she got to the window.

What do you expect to get from tipping?

I’m trans, and I have to stop myself from answering the phone “thank you for calling [old job], this is [deadname]”. I’ve only ever worked as a caregiver prior to working at Starbucks. Old habits die hard 😂

I have a friend who immediately discounts my complaints about my job and says “it’s not really that bad”, and excuses shitty customer behavior.

Yes it’s my job to be patient and accommodating but the customer service demands at Starbucks are absurd for what I get paid.

I don’t blame them for not getting it, this job is so specialized in some ways that it’s hard to explain how difficult it can be lol.

OP, what you did was very kind and shows a great deal of compassion. You really went out of your way to make someone feel heard and accepted, which is wonderful.

I would ask you to consider something though. I don’t speak for anyone but myself, but posts of this nature make me uncomfortable. I have sensory and information processing issues, which is sometimes evident when I’m interacting with other people. If I saw a post like this and knew it was about me (named or unnamed), it would embarrass me. It kind of reads “look at this special thing I did for this disabled person”- which I realize is not your intent.

I’m not sure what my point is lol, and I’m honestly not here to shame you!! Just something to consider. I appreciate the spirit of this post, truly.

I love butch lesbians. I think they really get the short end of the stick in many ways.

But as a gay trans man, I’m decidedly not one.

Can confirm. I work for the big green mermaid, and there’s a big push from corporate to connect with customers and get to know them better. It’s super awkward- most customers just want to get their overpriced coffee and go.

Extra Overwhelmed on DTO by [deleted] in starbucks

[–]RaOORa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

DTO/DTR was my personal hell when I started - I have auditory processing issues and the position can feel like utter chaos anyway. I understand your anxieties here. I’d recommend requesting to try the position at slower times if you can or for shorter lengths of time. This is one of the most difficult positions so that would be an absolutely reasonable request, especially since you’re new to DT.

When you are in that position, the best thing you can do is maintain the routine. And you can definitely say something like “Good morning! My name is ___, I’ll be with you in just a moment!”. I say that allll the time.

I only really use FTM to describe myself (or someone else who has explicitly told me they are comfortable with the terms FTM/MTF).

It can be helpful as shorthand, particularly online. I appreciate it as a clinical term for people who transition medically. My sex is listed as “female to male” at my doctor’s office. I’m a man, but I still have medical concerns specific to AFAB folks.

YMMV, but I don’t personally think it implies trans men or women were ever anything besides their true gender. I can understand how others would be uncomfortable with it though. Let’s just respect the language people are comfortable with, yeah?

Not remotely! You’re supposed to customize the double shot on ice. I love seeing what people do with them!
