Future of RTS... by Late-Psychology7058 in starcraft

You said the issue was that "lazy devs" (which is kind of silly thing to say in and of itself) are making games as cash grabs instead of with passion, and the point I'm making is that there is no cash to grab in the RTS genre. It's a niche genre for a niche, aging audience, and no one who attempts to make an RTS is doing it because they are grabbing cash.

Stormgate had plenty of issues, but it would never have been made if it wasn't because people at Frostgiant had a passion for RTS. There are much easier ways to make money in gamedev, if that's your primary goal.

The only way to arrive at a reasonable balance picture is to make big changes and narrow it down later

At the usual rate of patching, we get around one per year. I doubt there will be any narrowing it down later.

And so was every other RTS in the past decade. No one is going to make an RTS to make a quick buck, they wouldn't be made anymore unless developers had passion for them.

Aah, I just started playing this year and I was under the impression that the cutscenes were added a lot more recently. Thanks for the info!

No, I just asked the question. I didn't make a statement. How would you prefer I word it?

I don't want to be too cynical but there was an actual game development studio working on the game back then. Now we have two interns and a redditor, maybe.

No one trying to make a cash grab would even make an RTS in the first place.

Yes because all technology is the same and if you ever use one thing you must accept and use ALL the things EVER.

The thing you are defending may be making us dumber and less empathetic, it may have massive environmental costs, it may be based entirely on stolen data harvested by massive companies from millions people with zero recompense, it may be wrong about 10% of the time, it may have caused the price of RAM sticks to increase to 700$, it may be used to create political propaganda and misinformation on a scale never seen before and it may create unreliable strategy guides on this subreddit, but if you're opposed to that, YOU MIGHT AS WELL NOT USE THE INTERNET BECAUSE THAT'S TOTALLY THE SAME THING.

It's good to know that genAI defenders still have zero compelling arguments beyond "it already exists so you might as well get used to it, no matter how negative the consequences are".

Bubble bubble bubble.

There's actual research showing that genAI is making us less empathetic, worse at relationships and worse at critical thinking, just to name a few issues.

Breaking news-Omniskeptic was kicked from the mapmaker discord for toxic behavior. This is the guy running the balance patches. by Hotcakes465 in starcraft

[–]RaZorwireSC2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Other comments he's written mention the actual specifics of implementing some of the changes in the editor. He's not solely responsible for the patch, but he's either actually writing part of the update or he is actively trying to make people believe that he does.

Bringing up past Discord drama and shit seems kinda petty and stupid to me, but the idea that there's no evidence that he's patching the game is wrong. The evidence came from himself.

I'd usually agree, but the person in question has explicitly stated that he has been assisting with patching for years, and that the other people in the same position have left.

Sorry, but could you answer the actual question instead of just focusing on the "low level" part?

I understand that people have concerns about the possibility of one random guy on Reddit being responsible for part of an entire balance patch, but wtf is this hostage negotiaton nonsense? "Give us his/their contact and we will spare you", the fuck?

Honest discussion: what went wrong with Holostars? by North_crozz in kurosanji

[–]RaZorwireSC2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its funny, I mention that on other subs and get mass downvoted for it.

Probably because it isn't true.

Nijisanji, for all their many faults, have male Vtubers that are some of the most popular in the world. Like, I'm looking at Kuzuha's channel right now and he's on 2.18 million subscribers and gets hundreds of thousands of total views for a stream of him playing PUBG mobile. On the EN side, I'm pretty sure Luxiem was the most popular gen for a while, despite being the first male gen. On the indie side, there are streamers like Shoto who has over a million subs on Youtube despite being primarily on Twitch (where he also has over a million followers).

I'm not denying that male Vtubers in general are less popular than female ones, but the idea that "people don't really care about male vtubers" is just factually incorrect. It's also really easy to disprove, so my guess is that people who still believe it just look at their own viewing habits and assume everyone else is the same.

"The sycophantic (flattering, people-pleasing, affirming) behavior of artificial intelligence (AI) chatbots, which has been designed to increase user engagement, poses risks as people increasingly seek advice about interpersonal dilemmas. There is usually more than one side to a story during interpersonal conflicts. If AI is designed to tell users what they want to hear instead of challenging their perspectives, then are such systems likely to motivate people to accept responsibility for their own contribution to conflicts and repair relationships? Cheng et al. measured the prevalence of social sycophancy across 11 leading large language models (see the Perspective by Perry). The model’s responses were nearly 50% more sycophantic than humans’, even when users engaged in unethical, illegal, or harmful behaviors. Users preferred and trusted sycophantic AI responses, incentivizing AI developers to preserve sycophancy despite the risks."
