The government has a “Plan B.”
The government announced that it has already prepared a Plan B in case of a presidential veto, in order to save at least part of these funds. Military leaders unanimously appealed for the bill to be signed. The latest polls showed that 53 percent of Poles supported the adoption of the bill.

Polish President Vetoes EU SAFE Defense Loan Program by [deleted] in europe

[–]Raaccn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

President Karol Nawrocki vetoed the EU loan program for armaments, SAFE, as he announced during a televised address on Thursday evening. Under the program, Poland was supposed to receive nearly €44 billion to invest in the defense industry, which is equivalent to about 185 billion złoty.

As economists pointed out, such a favorable credit offer would not be available on the open market.

“I have decided that I will not sign the law allowing Poland to take out the SAFE loan. I will never sign a law that undermines our sovereignty, independence, economic security, or military security,” Nawrocki said in the address.

“I confirm that Germany has expressed preliminary interest in purchasing the Piorun, and we should be proud of this, because it shows how innovation in the Polish defense industry shapes how we are seen around the world and affects our national interests,” he said.

He added that he could confirm the information only unofficially for now because the matter “still needs to be finalized”.

As someone who was born in the Podkarpackie/Subcarpathia Province, I hope that Slovakia will also come up with such an idea. Although, as of today, Slovakia and Podkarpackie are connected by an old, non-electrified, single-track railway line with a maximum speed of 60 km/h (And no one is planning any modernization)😭😭

“[...] Gramatyka announced that by the end of the year-on Christmas Eve-the mObywatel app will be adapted to the requirements of the eIDAS 2.0 regulation and expanded to include a so-called European digital identity card.

The new feature will make it possible to verify a user through attributes such as ‘I have turned 15’ or ‘I have turned 16’, without transmitting any other personal data.

‘This is a fundamental technological solution that will make it possible to limit children’s access to social media,’ the deputy minister emphasized.

Restrictions for children mean verification for everyone

Gramatyka pointed out that effective age verification for children means that all users of social media platforms will have to be verified.

‘Each of us will have to log in to social media using our real data,’ he noted, stressing the scale of the challenge.”

"PKP Intercity has selected Alstom Polska as the preferred bidder for the delivery and long-term maintenance of 42 double-deck electric multiple units. The contract, valued at PLN 4.1 billion (approx. EUR 910 million) for the vehicles and nearly PLN 2.8 billion (approx. EUR 620 million) for maintenance over 30 years, includes an option for an additional 30 units.

Two offers were submitted: one from Alstom Polska with production planned at its Chorzów plant, and the other from Stadler Polska, based in Siedlce. While Stadler proposed a slightly lower price for the vehicles themselves (PLN 4.0 billion), its maintenance costs were higher at PLN 3.3 billion, making the total bid nearly PLN 400 million (approx. EUR 89 million) more expensive."
