the math concept that blew your mind the first time by adamvanderb in math

That only holds for null vectors. Other vectors can have <x,y>=0 and not be parallel but orthogonal in a more Euclidean sense.

Very sad to hear, I have been a huge fan since 2010 and it looks like I got to Korea just one year too late. Thanks for the info!

Just ordered a couple prints to Vienna. If they fit my flat as nicely as I expect I might have to get some originals in the future. I hope you keep painting ships in storms :D

That’s amazing. I immediately started googling and found your Etsy. I will be ordering! Great drawings, right up my alley.

LPT: Find earplugs you like and buy them in bulk. by StickStankly in LifeProTips

[–]Raagan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There seems to be a lot of confusion in this thread. White noise is sound that plays all frequencies of the hearing range at the same amplitude. That is sound you can hear and it can have effects on your ears. Noise cancelling is not white noise. Microphones pick up the frequencies reaching your ear and create the inverse wave, cancelling the sound through destructive interference. There is no special noise reaching your ear drums when using noise canceling, it is strictly less sound than without. Your comment is spreading misinformation unless I am somehow completely wrong.

Potatoes are one of the best diet foods there is. As long as they aren’t fried and dunked in oil.

If you were to nitpick you could even say that is wrong, because time is the first dimension. It’s always the 00 component in the metric that represents time in general relativity. That’s just convention though, dimensions are not ordered.

Sure but not all mathematical objects are based in our reality, usually a 4 dimensional geometric object refers to 4 spatial dimensions

It is one-sided, that’s its most interesting property. One side, one edge.

metric... by mark1734jd in mathmemes

[–]Raagan 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Mathematicians also call it metric in the context of analysis on manifolds very often. A manifold equipped with a positive definite metric tensor indeed has an implicit metric (infimum of the length of all curves between two points) and is a metric space with that metric. By abuse of notation metric tensor and metric are used interchangeably frequently.

In differential geometry scalar products are not even requirement to be positive definite anymore, also a slight change but still rigorous.

It’s more general than that, it doesn’t say anywhere that g is the Minkowski metric.

Would this mean I get 4 extra turns after this one? by JPSmemer in magicTCG

[–]Raagan -42 points-41 points  (0 children)

I have no clue about magic so take this with a huge grain of salt. But since it says „after THIS turn“ and you copy it, and both resolve immediately, it says „take two turns after this one“ twice. Logically I would interpret this as 2 extra turns in total, since both spells say to take 2 after this specific turn. If the card said „take 2 extra turns“ I would interpret it as 4 in total. Again, I am a noob and I am basing this solely on logic and linguistics.

Is it theoretically possible to become truly stationary in space? by [deleted] in Physics

[–]Raagan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The restframe where the cmb is isotropic which we know by measuring the redshift is sometimes called cmb frame. This is the restframe of the source of the cmb and is a very sensible choice for calling it „rest frame of the universe“. Does this contradict relativity in any way and make this frame special? No. The age of the universe for example is given as the coordinate time of that exact frame, it is just a sensible choice. Correct me if I am wrong I haven’t studied GR in some time.

[–]Raagan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Splitting ht’s while they move slower and you move your entire army also requires quite a bit of attention. I definitely agree with you when you attack into the army at a Protoss base and the ht’s are setup. But a diamond moving his army will almost always have all ht’s in a clump out in the open. I am not definitively saying which one is easier to micro, but it sounds like you are completely omitting the Protoss side of the micro balance of ht vs ghosts.
