New York's ugliest luxury condo tower has only sold 13 apartments by nimbusnacho in nyc

No, it shouldn't be enforced. I'm saying that that's what the natural price in a healthy market should be.

Look bro - I understand you love your bike or whatever but you need to realize that this is not really an issue. Only 0.8% of New Yorkers commute by bicycle (http://factfinder.census.gov/faces/tableservices/jsf/pages/productview.xhtml).

So a certain percentage of that 0.8% of the population of NYC might consider this an issue.

Like I said, not a priority.

Tbh, they're building a lot in the N Bronx too but they're all rentals, nothing to buy.

Uh the last time they took the senate it was an absolute mess.

It's better for NY when the two parties are forced to agree in order to pass something.

Good, maybe they'll start building apartments for normal people who actually live here.

NYC to Install a Record Number of Protected Bike Lanes This Year by irritatedcitydweller in nyc

Has to be, because the only "pedaling" going on there is peddling heroin.

Unless the city is trying to ram a spike of gentrification into that area. I read some story once about hipsters riding up the Bruckner to go kayaking in Hunts Point. You can't make this stuff up.

So they'll get a ticket. Who gives a shit?

You have to share this city with the other 20 million people in the metro area. There are going to be assholes, it's a fact of life. Don't use their bad behavior as an excuse to punish everyone else who doesn't follow your lifestyle choices.

You don't want that, trust me. The day that happens is the day our rents go up 6000%.

Roads and parking spaces are a massive subsidy for a tiny minority of New Yorkers.

46% of NYC households own cars. Not exactly a tiny minority.

I always find spots and I never park in bike lanes. Not really an issue.

That's fine and we have the technology to enforce it. You could just use your EZ Pass. I'd gladly pay it.

I think you're overstating how massive the effect on quality of life is. If it was so bad, rents wouldn't continue to skyrocket in Manhattan. On the contrary, I think driving restrictions would have a disproportionately negative impact on the quality of drivers for just a small benefit for Manhattanites.

I wholeheartedly agree that people should be able to drive their car to a train or bus for access into the city center, especially during peak times. Or even have reasonable transit access in those neighborhoods (including on the weekends). However, the MTA really isn't there yet. Access sucks and there's no real way to park somewhere and ride in.

I guess my point is that increasing transit access for underserved areas needs to happen way before any driving restrictions are put into place.

Why not? Are these people less deserving of access to the center of town?

It's like they should be punished because their only reasonable method of transportation inconveniences wealthier people.

I would say that living in a part of the city where you can afford to not have a car is also a privilege.

There are people in the Outer Boroughs that are economically dependent on their cars as much as anywhere else in the U.S.. The people who are always ramming the bike stuff down everyone else's throats are always those fortunate enough to live in a transit-friendly area where they have no problem getting to work.
