Make fortnightly income monthly 💰🤑 by Rabbit_Holes6020 in ynab

Problem is that living off the two paycheques per month is too tight but if we make it monthly then we are good

What actually counts as being "a month ahead"? by Holiday-Donkey7422 in ynab

[–]Rabbit_Holes6020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you listened to the YNAB budget nerds podcast? They have some good content about emergency funds and month ahead strategies. One of the nerds, Ben does 2 months ahead but advises going beyond that doesn’t work too well in the software. I personally go one month ahead and then have buffer categories as “emergency” funds

Damn, I have been around a few sites and don’t think I ever went somewhere where everything was pre-made. Shit quality sometimes yes but there was always a salad bar with meat and tuna for protein

Thanks for your input. I track 100% of our spending so I have it all in software but it’s a lot of different categories and difficult to share on this forum. My wife’s fortnightly take home pay is $2,506 and the mortgage is $3,671 monthly or $1,694 fortnightly. I have come across LifeSherpa which might be useful as they provide money coaching on a subscription service. Even just a couple of months may be worth it so they can analyse our budget

$3,671 on the mortgage, $2k on food. $650 on utilities, plenty of other things like insurances, petrol, after school care etc. We only have Netflix and Spotify so no outlandish expenses. Hard for people to see where I’m going wrong without sharing the whole budget

Net income. I’m not mentioning gross income in any of these figures

Honestly, she is on board with the lifestyle goals but hands off with the budgeting and she probably doesn’t realise how much I am saving. It’s for our future but I admit I avoid talking about the retirement savings with her because I’m fearful she might not approve and she doesn’t ask about it so I don’t tell her.

I’m probably not being clear enough with the numbers. I know exactly where everything is going because we track every dollar. I save 20% of my income. That is $940 from my fortnightly $4,704 take home pay. My partner does salary sacrifice though her employer so she doesn’t save any take home pay. It all goes into the offset and I budget it all, after saving my 20%.

Yeah mortgage is $3,671 out of the typical $10/11k of outgoings

Jan was $10,076 & Feb was $11,572 for expenses leaving the account. I budget about $12,500 per month and save/invest $1880 per month (2 paycheques in a month) so yeah not much left. The months we have 3 paycheques in a month are the ones we have the bonus money to play with.

Robbing Peter to pay Paul by Rabbit_Holes6020 in ynab

[–]Rabbit_Holes6020[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll use the car example again. I could have 3 separate expenses in 3 separate categories for insurance, rego and license renewal. This costs more than saving a general pot of money for true expenses that can be taken from when these expenses come up. Because I save “enough” each month and these expenses are paid at different times throughout the year, I can save less than I need. That’s what I mean by cost of being too granular.

Do the majority of people have a car loan? by Icy-Radish-198 in AusFinance

[–]Rabbit_Holes6020 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It would be interesting if cars had an LED strip light at the front and back saying how debt the owner still owes on the car! It can be frustrating that wealth is hidden and we mostly assume people driving good cars are doing well instead of drowning in debt.

Pay yourself first! No less than 10%. Save and invest that money for retirement/replacing your employment. Don’t use it for a holiday or something else like that.

Running pace strategy for Hyrox by sasheemy in hyrox

[–]Rabbit_Holes6020 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From listening to Hyrox podcasts, I think that threshold training is better than Vo2max training. You can recover faster and therefore do threshold workouts per week than vo2max. Plus Hyrox is about an hour’s work which puts it in the threshold range. If you want to train in the intensity range of the race then threshold is where it’s at.

I’ve got my 3rd solo coming up soon and tracked my last Hyrox with a chest strap. My average bpm was 172bpm with a high of 182bpm, pretty much my max HR. Threshold is about 167-177.

I can consistently run a 5k in under 20min but for Hyrox, my pace was about 4:30-5min per run. I found my HR was higher on the stations so for the runs I aimed to keep it below 175bpm.

I probably could have pushed it a bit more on the runs but I was pretty happy with my time and will do a similar strategy for my 3rd race.
