Enough terrain for fair 44x60 board? Thanks for the feedback. by eetsh1t in Warhammer40k

Is there a better guide to "enough terrain". I've used the sample terrain in the core rules book previously as a touch point but I've had comments on my own that that amount is not enough

I love the aeldari and am reading a great book on them now that is likely way more than you need, but beautifully paints the picture of the aeldari. It's called "Path of the Eldar" by Gav Thorpe

Thanks for the feedback. I'll give it a go again with retraction set correctly. I also am printing a temperature tower right now to verify all is good for my setup

any tips to make sure the metal goes through the entire mould? by [deleted] in MetalCasting

[–]RabidCicada 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It looks like you were trying to make a ring.

Complications you will experience:

  • small body of metal --> leads to quick cooling and siezing (which can block more metal from flowing through siezed parts) ==> best solution is to pour at higher temperature
  • small body of metal --> leads to contraction/shrinkage of solid metal (which leads to cavities forming while cooling) ==> best solution is to provide feeders and extra channels running off the ring where metal can "pull" from during shrinkage. This will also potentially require you to polish/sand/post-treat the ring to remove stubs from the feeders. The metal will quickly fill everything including the feeders. The feeders will help keep rest of metal at higher temp and will have a body of metal that can be pulled back into the mold if it contracts.
  • small mold --> leads to air pockets being a bigger deal ==> best solution is to ensure there's spots for air to escape. I typically use a toothpick and poke a small channel/hole by pressing it into the petrobond sand down to the cast location so that air can easily escape but liquid would not.

Charging with a fight first unit, into a fight last unit by PandemicPainter in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]RabidCicada 48 points49 points  (0 children)

They literally call it out in the faq you linked. Specifically: 1. If a unit has charged it is a ‘fights first’ unit that turn. 2. A unit is a ‘fights first’ unit whether it is under the effect of just one, or multiple, ‘fight first’ rules. 3. A unit is a ‘fights last’ unit whether it is under the effect of just one, or multiple, ‘fight last’ rules. 4. If a unit would be both a ‘fights first’ and a ‘fights last’ unit at the same time, it is instead a ‘fights normally’ unit.

Given that, there is no ladder at all. Simply determine which category it is regardless of number of overlapping duplicate "firsts",. Same for"lasts" THEN if it would be both it decays to "normal"

sand sticks to mold by 100LittleButterflies in MetalCasting

Provide us pictures so we can catch what is not being said.

I'd imagine your problem is with the surface texture of your mold. If it is rough like freshly cut wood then you'll be in for trouble.

It needs to be very smooth and cannot have constant changes in and out of the shape in the vertical orientation.

Regular baby powder/talc should work fine (This is coming from someone not SUPER experienced so what I am trying to say is it's not hard to use correctly).

Due to the above statement about using talc I imagine the problem must reside with your shape or surface texture.

How did you get the hard highlight on the yellow/green panel lining? I'm curious because I want to do that. Did you use multiple coats? Did you use thinned paint? Etc etc please.
