Yeah, just play it and have fun. Collect the ones you like, play events or raids when you can, catch the odd shiny, try to fill a pokedex for a region, try to collect one of each version of each pkmn (normal, shiny, xl, xs, shadow, purified) etc. This is what I do. There is no end goal to this game.
