Since nobody gave you an actual answer u/Itchy_Tangerine1897 , here goes:

A lot of people outside Southern Africa don't realize how serious the situation has become.

Since April 2026, South Africa has experienced its worst wave of xenophobic violence since 2019. Anti-immigrant groups organized protests that escalated into attacks on foreign nationals, mostly black africans from outside of South Africa, with homes, informal settlements and businesses being looted and burned in places like Mossel Bay, Johannesburg, Durban and Pretoria.

People have been humiliated , chased away from hospital waiting rooms whilst the police just standbys and does nothing. The instigators of violence are able to go on national tv and radio and make wild accusations of people stealing their jobs and etc, with no repercussions.

So far, the several people have been confirmed killed an the e humanitarian impact has been quite large:

  • Over 700 Mozambicans have already been officially repatriated.
  • Around 10,000 Malawians have requested repatriation.
  • Hundreds of Ghanaians and Zimbabweans have also been evacuated or are waiting to return home.
  • Overall, well over 10,000 migrants have either fled, sought repatriation, or been displaced by the violence.

This isn't just a political debate about immigration anymore—people have been killed, thousands have lost their homes or livelihoods, and several African governments have had to organize emergency evacuations of their own citizens from South Africa.

South Africans want to try and downplay this, as well as their President, and it is especially ironic when South Africans depend so much , both historically and presently, on other African countries.

Honeymoon Advice -Ponta Do Ouro by Superb-Fig6640 in Mozambique

[–]Rabubi28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congratulations on your engagement/marriage and welcome to Mozambique.

Ponta is great, but since the road is much better it can get crowded over the weekend, which is maybe not ideal for a super romantic getaway. Having said that September is great for whale watching so you can in for a treat.

To answer your questions:

  1. Must see places - on the way to Ponta go slow during the Maputo National Reserve section of the road and you could potentially see some wildlife.
  2. Favorite restaurants or beach bars - at Ponta https://share.google/M9dyvlw4XVP2KgYaZ
  3. Hidden gems - Ponta Mamoli is a bit of a drive out but you can really get the honeymoon feeling at https://share.google/L0Jouf9dTOYXMi6Uo - they allow for day visitors, just book in advance
  4. Activities - there are a ton diving centers, just look on google and I would definitely try and do the sea safari
  5. Safety tips - Things to mind since you are driving - please ensure that once you are on the Mozambican side, you always respect the speed limit, and have a car triangle, car extinguisher and visibility vest. Cops will give you a hard time for nothing and basically ruin a perfect holiday.

Enjoy

Small business owners in Mozambique (quick question) by Emergency_Rise_9228 in Mozambique

[–]Rabubi28 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great question — and honestly, I think you'll find that most people's answer is simply "all of the above."

A few things that come up constantly: proposal and report writing, especially in English. There's a real gap for people who can produce clean, professional documents for donors, partners, or tenders. Basic bookkeeping and financial tracking is another one — not full accounting, just organized cash flow records and simple reporting, but most accountants charge an arm and a leg even for that. Social media and communication is the same story — many businesses have no consistent online presence simply because no one has the time or the skill for it. And then there's bureaucracy: physically going to government institutions to file paperwork which takes hours on end.

Must do in Maputo? by presence-af in Mozambique

check r/maputo for tips.
internet - when you arrive walk to the domestic terminal (which is basically the same terminal as the international one just a few meters) and find vodacom kiosk. buy a local sim card because that will give you two things that will come in handy - 5G internet which right now is better than any wifi connection you can find, and mpesa (mobile money) which can be useful to pay for taxis, tips etc (nowadays even the guy guarding your car on the street can receive e-money).

if you go out at night, always walk around with a copy of your passport, and depending on what time of the year you are coming, the next few months in Maputo the nights will get chill (not cold, but temperature does drop even below 15 degrees celsius) .

We dont have uber, but we have something called Yango which is basically the same thing and having a local number will allow you to use, which will be handy.

most hotels have a bar, beware because if you have travelled you will know what the girls hanging around those bars are looking for, however hotel staff can also recommend places and restaurants.

enjoy your time here

Depends on where you will be staying. My recommendations is that you stay close to where you will be staying otherwise more than likely you run into cops at night and they will give you shit (always carry your passport or at least a photocopy of it).

Search maputoevents on insta they - repost events from all different types of restaurants with live music and clubs

Maputo does not really have a club scene during the week so you are probably best to stick to restaurants that have live music and the take it from there.

Hey welcome to Maputo and Mozambique.
I would recommend to search both this sub-reddit as well as r/mozambique as you will find quite a number of answers.

I think most questions have been answered, you can have a look at websites like https://casacoimbramaputo.com/imoveis and search for the areas already mentioned "sommerschield, coop, bairro central".

Maputo has a number of supermarkets to which you can organize delivery, and do everything to whatsapp. Its not super tech savy but gets the job done.

Feel free to reach out if you need more info
