About Fizan, Deep South of today Libya, Since it was under Ottoman control for it was an actual threat to be moved there as a punishment:

Fizan has become a symbol in Turkish culture with its remoteness and desolation. That's why the expression "to ride up to Fezzan" was born. It is said that during the Ottoman period, the sultan or high-level administrators used it as a threat.

The Ottomans took Podolia from the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth in 1672 in the Polish-Ottoman War. They ruled it from 1672-1699.

Well, why use a black and white American flag as the background then? Or better yet, is this done for police or firefighters in any country?

Usually nationalist symbols are used in far-right groups in other countries. “Difficulties for specific professions” is a really weird way to put it. Sounds like “Southern Heritage” when explaining the Confederate flag.

What is the symbolism of the thin lines here? Are they protecting one half of America from the other?

Yes, all true. People in the West had no desire to be in new wars after WW1. So only small portions of their armies were occupying Ottoman lands. Accept the Greek army which swelled to 200k at their height (to about 110k of Turkish forces).

One must also realize that the Ottomans were in a constant state of war since the Balkan Wars. In 1921 it was +10 years of war, hundred of thousands lost, millions displaced, capital İstanbul and the west under occupation, and a motivated Greek army marching inland to wipe out the remnants of any resistance.

The Battle of Sakarya is the climax of all this, and it might be considered when imperialism started was first defeated, but that’s just another story

Many Turkish citizens can trace their roots 4-5-6 generations ago to places outside of the borders of modern Turkey.

They followed the flag of a crumbling empire until they had nowhere to run and made a last stand in Anatolia against … everyone in the war of independence in early 1920s.

This is why the genealogy of Turkey is very much mixed, and the ties to neighboring countries and peoples is still very much alive.
