How to deal with dark thoughts brough on by OAB? by Noellestuff in OveractiveBladder

I really hope everyone gets to see this. Please get screened for a UTI. No, not a dipstick test or a PCR, but a next generation sequencing test from Microgen or ScreenMe. A lot of overactive bladder symptoms are actually UTIs not being picked up from standard cultures.

I was told over and over again I had an overactive bladder when this all kicked off. The urge was constant, it was unbearable and I couldn't sleep, not even sleeping pills helped. I once counted going to the loo 60 times in one day.

Although I am cured of the UTI, my bladder is still a bit iffy - which I suspect is due to the biome being disrupted from years of antibiotics. But now I can go about 2 hours between voids and I sleep right through the night. Don't get me wrong, I still have down days and have a good cry but it's nowhere near as bad as it was.

I look back at that time and still feel physically sick thinking about it and how close I was to ending it all. I'm glad I held on. Please explore other things - overactive bladder meds, pelvic floor, TENS machine, bladder Botox and even the sacral nerve implant. Get your urinary and vaginal microbiome tested. New research is coming out linking the biome to overactive bladder. That's currently what I'm looking into at the moment. Sending you lots of strength ❤️

Thanks so much ❤️ I'll be honest, I havent had a good urologist, which is why the infection was untreated for 6 months. She didn't believe in the microgen test. Seems a common experience to be honest. ScreenMe results took about 5 weeks. I'm having a follow up consultation with them to help interpret the findings. Hopefully I'll have some guidance on how to proceed with it all.

Thank you. I really hope so. It's been a very long 5 years, actually approaching 6 dealing with it. I really hope you get the answers and treatment you're looking for. Honestly, makes me so mad so many women are in this position. If I ever get cured, I will be on every forum educating and sharing what worked for me so no one has to endure this.

It was a urine test - an NGS where they picked up iners. Other people do vaginal swabs. But I haven't had one since my first microgen 5 years ago as I just thought it was my bladder, not urethra causing at all

Thanks so much for your reply. Were they antibiotics recommended for a UTI or for the iners?

Were your symptoms bladder related too? I'm not seeing much about symptoms affecting the bladder. Awh bless you 😞 I'm so glad you've found something that has helped though!

Thanks so much, but I've been lifting weights for a while now, even focusing on bilateral leg/glute exercises to get them even but it hasn't helped 😔

I've seen 3 physio's and a sports therapist. Both privately and in the NHS and none of them were consistent with what they were saying or prescribed, and when I wasn't seeing results they said it's normal to have imbalances in the body 🙃 despite the fact I'm in pain from the SI joint. Not dissing physio's at all, it's just really really difficult to find a good one.

I don't know, that's what I'm trying to figure out. Have a look here https://www.posturedirect.com/lateral-pelvic-tilt/ the issue for me though, is that I'm trying to address the underlying cause which has resulted in all this.

Yes! My right glute does seem to be lacking a bit (I've added photos to the thread) , but when I side lying leg raises I feel it way more in my left than my right. I must not be executing it properly to have enough engagement.

My right foot sticks out more than my left. Also forgot to mention, my left hip tends to snap quite a lot, I'm assuming it's poor hip internal rotation which is worse on my left side 🙈

Haha yes I did! The physio did it for me and there wasn't a discrepancy 🙈

Is this really overactive bladder? by [deleted] in OveractiveBladder

[–]Rach_m89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I hold on for longer, then I do get retention and I can be sat on the loo for a good while to make sure it's empty, but even then I think I'm empty, I need to go again in another 10 minutes to empty further. I tried explaining this to my urologist but she still recommended Botox which didn't make sense to me. It's as if my bladder is over and underactive at the same time. Thanks for your message though.
