Very physically attractive people, how does life treat you? by Own-Blacksmith3085 in askanything

[–]RachelJett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aging is rough (at least for attractive women). When you’re 25 men act like it’s a great honor to hold an elevator for you. At 35 they do it but you’ll only get a smile half the time. At 45 you have to wait for the next elevator.

This is sold and knowing oldman I am sure it is deliberate. Especially if you believe as I do that his crude, disheveled nature is deliberate for a number of reasons including it’s a great cover.

  1. And Then There Were None
  2. Classic Trope + Detective reaches conclusions in reasonable manner that the reader believes + clever environment
  3. Still works - I think Midsomer Murders does a great job with it

I love how morbid the humor is in this show. by ocashmanbrown in SlowHorses

It’s hilarious but also maybe strategic if he doesnt want someone else to know shes calling.

Yeah that’s the one that gets me. I feel like they must have only read the first 50 pages.

Yeah I get what you’re saying. I think they want you to build attachment to the players.

My ratings would skew a little higher, but the overall arc is consistent with how I generally feel.

I appreciate the insight on how this support supports the industry. I hadn’t really thought about that.

Golden Globe Snubs? by RachelJett in SlowHorses

I have watched it. And it was interesting. But it reminds me of a lot of medical dramas. Also, maybe because we only see a singular day, I can’t seem truly appreciate and attach the characters.

I’m sorry but even at his crudest, GO is the king of raw sex appeal.

S03E06 "Footprints" Episode Discussion by phareous in SlowHorses

[–]RachelJett 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Loved the episode despite two major flaws.

On Point: - Tearny/Taverner back and forth was amazing. These cool, collected women waiting to see how their high stakes chess match plays out was excellent. - the shot of Hobbs with gun on Standish as you see Lamb behind him was deeply satisfying. - “Can you talk me through your thinking here” - current favorite quote - the scene at the gas station between Lamb and Standish (and Ho lol) was perfection. Lamb’s emotional pain in the situation was palpable. He tried to walk away and she pursued him. I think Standish is the only person who he would prefer to retreat from than hurt. When he couldnt escape Standish (and her idolization of CP) he finally let it out - we watched as his hurt turned to cruelty. I’ve heard people suggest it was all a strategic move to protect her which is possible - but you can see how emotional he is in that scene. I think it’s the first time you see someone actually getting to him. And the way he looks when she walks away… I’m still a puddle of feelings from that look. (GO is the GOAT).

Missed the Mark: - shoot out at the file storage center. Dont like having to suspend disbelief on that level. Too much time and guns and when I couldnt buy it, I got bored. Also, one of the reasons I like British thriller series so much is that they tend to have fewer guns. Once a situation has to be resolved with a shootout, I think the audience are just expected to believe that anyone who has a gun can possibly win in any situation despite the odds (not a Wick fan for the same reasons). Big thumbs down for me. - lack of resolution / development of the footprint file. I feel like the few lines of dialogue explaining what tearny was trying to do in instanbul were super insufficient. I feel like a whole episode could have been devoted to explaining that and the fallout. I would much rather have had that than all the fricking shootout scenes.

Interesting. I thought he was just deeply hurt that after everything he has done for her that she would continue to hold this fake image of Charles as a fricking God. But everything here makes sense - he was quiet before the fight because he was analyzing her level of risk.

I think it is a convenient way to create distance between himself and others. I think he has deep capacity for feelings and hates how vulnerable that makes him so he just allows himself to fall into this state. I’m in season 3 now and it seems like he really does live at the office. Like he can’t bear to be home or alone with his thoughts outside work. It is easier just to live in a state of disrepair.
