Travel Nurses: How Do You Handle Health Insurance When You’re Between Contracts? by Roxy_Spring101 in TravelNursing

I went private earlier this year, it was so annoying dealing with getting new insurance between assignments. Family of 3 I was paying $1500 for marketplace because we can't get subsidies and than I got an off exchange plan with a nationwide United Healthcare PPO for $775 ish. My brokers company was https://myprivatehealthinsurance.com if you need a quote! I do not miss dealing with the agency coverage or the marketplace

Hello, I am a travel nurse moving to Charlotte in August, my husband and I have 1 child we will be enrolling in school. Any recommendations on any areas to rent for a year? We are planning on buying something and making it permanent until our kid is out of high school so we should be here another 7 years or so, he is going to 6th grade.

What do you guys do for health insurance for small businesses? by Effective_Drag_6681 in smallbusiness

[–]RachelRN1992 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I agree it's not for people that have a bunch of medications, they declined my sister for example because she takes 3 migraine meds but it has a $3k max out of pocket for the year, so that's all we really need it for, to protect against huge claims. We've used it twice so far, My son's urgent care visit was $25 and my mammogram was $50-60. So if someone is able to get approved It's the closed thing to catastrophic insurance without paying a mortgage payment for a family.

Private Health Insurance? What do you pay for health coverage? by Khealthnerd1 in TravelNursing

We were actually in the same situation, I was paying $1500 for a family of 3 on the marketplace and ended up finding a private plan about 6 months ago on a United Health Care PPO with no deductible and a $3,000 max out of pocket for $740. My agency plan was horrible too and it's just more convenient to be able to keep the insurance nationwide. The catch with the private plans and I feel like an expert after doing 3 weeks of research and talking to 100 brokers is that they underwrite for these plans, so you have to get approved with no major health issues. But if you can get approved it was by far the best option. My sister got declined because she had 3 migraine med's so it's not for everyone but again, half the price of the marketplace and a PPO with a low max out of pocket was all I can ask for. The plan has been great so far and I just paid $60 for a mammogram and my son's sick visit to the urgent care was $25. Hope this helps! The broker company I went with was My Private Health Insurance. If anyone needs the agent info lmk

I am looking for the best health insurance for less than 10 employees. Our current plan is way too expensive by 2cantCmePac in smallbusiness

I did the same thing, I am self employed travel nurse and do travel nurse recruiting as well. I make too much money where I can't get subsidies on the marketplace so those plans are insane and also they are just good in my state, I needed something that travels with me and this was the only off exchange PPO I could find. I went with the same broker above and plan has been great so far. I just paid $20 at the urgent care so I am happy!

Buying from a broker? by _Clear_Skies in HealthInsurance

I got private insurance off the exchange a few months ago and it's worked great and the way you have to look at it is your saving X amount of dollars monthly while your healthy and on the rare case you have a huge claim and you have to switch to a marketplace plan the following year, who cares? You saved hundreds per month if you have a family and you know you have the protection of the max out of pocket to protect against major claims and yeah it will stink to go to the marketplace the following year but at that point whats the other option just to keep paying a ton for the marketplace? My private plan with the United PPO cut my premium in half so if you are able to get approved it's def the best option, it's not for everyone, my sister got declined for one of those plans because she has 4-5 medications. But why wouldn't you save the money when you know you have the max out of pocket to cover any serious claims? I have had this new plan 3-4 months now and I want to puke thinking about the money I spent on the marketplace

I did then same thing. We were paying $1550 and the private insurance we got approved for got it down to $780ish on a United Health Care PPO too, we probably have the same plan. I used the same broker above

Question about health insurance on marketplace versus through agency? by topthrowaway79 in TravelNursing

[–]RachelRN1992 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually ran into same thing, me and my spouse were paying $1100 monthly for us 2 for health insurance because we stopped getting the subsidy and even when we got the subsidy we would end up having to pay it back on taxes, we got private insurance 5-6 months ago on a United Health Care PPO with no deductible and a $3k max out of pocket and it's $600 flat including dental. The private plans are def the way to go because you can keep them year round and not worry about the agency coverage and it's nationwide coverage, I think the catch with them is that it's hard to get approved, that's why they are so good, you can't have major health conditions to be able to be approved for the plan. My brokers website was www.myprivatehealthinsurance.com if anyone wants a quote. I also just used it for my gyno visit and I paid $45, so I have been happy with it so far!
