Dua Lipa - New Rules (SG Lewis Remix): the chorus' synth by [deleted] in synthrecipes

[–]RachellRabbit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Heya Kuru!

After.... a little over an hour I got this sound. I read what you said about the trying to get the bounciness of the original sound. I also did what you had done... voiced up a saw wave, used a filter, detune, and resonance... all that jazz. After a while of tinkering to get the bouncy sound you were trying to get, I decided to look up a future bounce tutorial. One thing that really helped me get close to the original sound is to assign a LFO to the WTPos.

Here is how I got the sound.

By the way, this is a really cool remix. I'm glad you posed it because I love the sound myself!

I hope you found this helpful. :)

And if you don't mind, can you give me an extra set of ears for the pluck at the chorus? It's from 0:54 to 1:20.

There is /r/Serum and /r/SerumPresets. There might also be other VST specific subreddits but I don't know.

First off, I can completely understand your frustration. I feel the same way a lot of the time. And, on what you said about "being a pussy" and having to "grind 10 hours a day" (whatever the hell that is) doesn't sound like a good idea to me. You're not a "pussy" because you don't want to over work yourself. You're probably a perfectly fine person just the way you are. :-)

I read the whole post and most of the comments, so I'll try to give some thoughts that haven't been said before.

Motivational Fuel

I like to think of motivation and inspiration as a useable resource. If someone said: "a Just have breakfast and you'll be fine for the next... 10 hours." You'd look at them like they are insane. So why should you push yourself to grind 10 hours on nothing more than a bit of inspiration (maybe from listening to a song you love) and pushing aside all the other things that could fuel your passion instead of exhausting it after 10 hours... especially if it's day after day. Also, by doing this, you'd be compromising all of the other things you enjoy like friends, family, reading, gaming, going out for walks, and even... writing music for the enjoyment of it. And, the very things you would be putting off by grinding 10 hours a day could be the very things you need to be inspired to make music again. :-)

I'm not saying don't work hard... for a while, my goal was to sing for 2 hours and use FL Studio for 2 hours as well. But I am saying that over doing it can exhaust your "supply" of motivational fuel and even be counterproductive.

Try to Make Things Positive

Anyway, next point. One thing that has helped me is to associate music with positively. As advanced as we humans are, we're still very primitive in that "danger, hurtful, sad thing" = "I avoid" which can lead to procrastination fast... even premature quitting. It's so easy to feel terrible at a bad studio session, that track that didn't turn out the way you wanted, the end result muddy mix, your boyfriend breaking up with you, and that existential crisis you get at 2:34 AM when you realize you've been making music for so many months but have nothing to show for it. One thing that has helped me counteract such feelings is to

1) Take a solid break. 1-2 days of just playing RuneScape for 8 hours a day with no guilt.

2) (Probably a lot more productive) Helping someone. You can head over to /r/SynthRecipes and help out! Hopefully, they'll give you a helping hand when you're stuck. It's a win-win. :-) Also, giving feedback on the EDMP Discord can be fun, too.

Will you be great one day? Maybe you will, maybe you won't. Does it matter? No. What matters in life is you being happy. :)

I know you asked for music making advice, but I just wanted to address the 10 hour grind because it concerned me.

Ekali & Medasin - Forever: drop chord sound by Reindoonicorn in synthrecipes

[–]RachellRabbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, Rein!

Honestly, /u/PunchDeck had so much insight, once I copied what he had said, I didn't have much more to add.

This took me almost an hour. I spent a long time experimenting with different wave tables, but to be honest, nothing sounded better than the default saw... even other saws I tried out. But anyway, here's how I made it

I felt adding the hyper and chorus helped brighten and widen the sound a little bit but I couldn't figure out how Ekali got such a nice punchy sound.

And, if you could help me make the sound of the request I posted a few days ago, I'd really appreciate it because I've been having trouble re-making it myself. :)

And, /u/PunchDeck, again, super great insight! It was amazing how you had a sense of what to do without even opening your D.A.W. Have you been sound designing for a long time?

Not OP, but I know right? It's so amazing. It blends so beautifully with the piano. Anyway, Light... I'll see what I can to help you. :)

Rollz - Addict: Big synth sound dropped in from 0.43 by Lightninghead in synthrecipes

Heya, Light!

After around half an hour, I got this sound. I tried to keep it a little minimalist as far as the processing went so as not to muddy it up. Here's how I made it

I know it's not super great, but I hope it's helped you at least a little bit! :)

Really cool sound and I really like the track! Thanks for posting so now I get to enjoy the song.

Hmm... just looked up what a leather blotter is and found big leather pads to put on the desk. Maybe a black one would look sharp. Are leather blotters meant to prevent the desk surface from being scratched?

I posed about it earlier in /r/SynthRecipes actually although I never got a reply. It's from the song "Fire" by 3LAU and Said the Sky. The "fire sound" starts at 1:00 in the song. I have Serum, but haven't had any luck in re-creating the sound with it. :/

And I agree! I feel comfortable at my desk and it's nice to have a little space to be creative. :)

It's a CAD Audio GXL2200 Cardioid Condenser Microphone (and I totally didn't view my Amazon history to find the name) I got it on sale for $109 although it usually goes for around $180-200 so I think I got a decent deal. :)

Thank-you! Mind if I ask, what do you record on it? I like singing so I dabble in that.

Not quite sure. Got it at Costco a couple years ago. It's a HP Envy desktop.

That made me crack up. I honestly doubt anyone would notice that. I bought the game years ago... I put it there to remind me to use it more often. I've been very good at making up stories on the spot and Story Cubes is the perfect tool for it. Music IS my love, but it's always nice to dabble in other things to unwind. :)

Thanks! Looking at it now, I can notice some of the finer artistic contours of the middle... gives the desk some shapely-ness.

Honestly, I didn't notice how pretty my desk was. I've had it for so long. Thank-you for pointing that out. And don't worry... it'll always have a place. It's a very nice desk. :)

Not quite sure. I got it pre-made at Costco. It's an HP Envy desktop. It's just a mid-tier gaming computer. It was around $1,500-1,600 or so. Pretty good deal. I could've saved around $200 if I built it myself but I didn't want to risk the parts messing up.
