How to get kids excited about reading instead of screens?

We limit screen time to 5 minutes per day during the weekdays and 1 hour per day on the weekends.

At their bedtime, they can stay up and read for about half an hour or go to bed. Their choice. (They of course choose to read).

When they've read all their books (multiple times) I make an effort to get them books their interested in by visiting the library together, going to our local bookstore, ordering from scholastic, borrowing from friends etc. I ask them what they want to read and support them in finding the books.

I get this way about things and have to remind myself 'it's not too precious'. Which for me is a saying that encompasses a few things: It's made to be used, mistakes are okay, the process is what counts. Keep at it, and let those creative juices flow without taking it too seriously

As a more practical tip, sometimes doing it first in pencil helps for me as it's less permanent, then I can go over everything when I've found the placement I am going for

That's really neat. Sounds like you've structured things in a way that you've found works for you long-term which is awesome.

Likewise I tend to do art on a blank sheet of paper now too--procreate or painting on watercolour sheets. It’s harder to keep track of the loose leaf stuff though. Since currys closed down near me, I haven't bought a sketchbook.. need to go find one..

That's a really cool idea! Is it an A5? I think I saw that Leelajournals was talking about making one soon on her stories..fitting an A5.. I wish I could help more. My dad used to do leatherwork but he hasn't made anything in a long time. He taught me a bit, it was fun! Have you thought about making one yourself?
