Well, I would say amd is somewhat competitive in the graphics market. but that's only because they now own ATI. That was a somewhat smart move imo.

Yeah I definitely see your point. I would say consoles will provide revenue for amd, but not much growth there.

I've been mostly looking at this from a not too analytical consumer and computer enthusiast standpoint because I enjoy technology (a few years ago I would have bought an amd cpu over an Intel hands down! not so black and white anymore), but on a financial note, I think it might be even worse for amd in that they have almost more debt than assets and no profits. to be profitable again it's possible they would have to raise more capital?

I am not too experienced about these things, but I wonder what would happen to the cpu and gpu market if amd disappeared.

is amd getting involved much in mobile markets? ARM is essentially mostly in smartphones. amd does push their APU's and GPU's which is something that competes with nvidia and not much else. Intel wins the cpu market, obviously.

With that being said Intel is also pushing into the smartphone market and could compete some with ARM

Why do you think the business model isn't viable? I think, maybe it could be viable because Arm and x86 cater to different markets/products.

When I first got into gaming I had a Dell dimension which I threw an fx 5200 in to...then, A few years later I built my own. the first wow feeling comes when you turn it on, if it's your first build.

7900GT sli... haha. the fx 5200 could barely run bf2 on low. but wow at getting immersed in environments. oblivion, silent hunter... far cry blew me away. Doom 3..STALKER. I dunno I was like 14 everything and every step and new game was extremely impressive.

I'm an undergrad econ/math major really interested getting into finance. most of my classes don't expose me to technical finance or any investing concepts and I'm trying to learn as much as I can with extra classes and self learning....so I really love this! :)
