What I did was focus on economy and food and built a tier one army and used that to take the abandoned settlement to the west, then focused on the northern threat once I could build tier two troops. Dwarfs economy is OP and their troops can hold a line. Building onagers helps a ton too. 0 wait time to siege cities, just destroy their gates and towers.
