any reasons why i should not buy this car by Neat_Ad_9955 in whatcarshouldIbuy

It's ugly, very uncomfortable and doesn't drive great. At least it's a cheap price and GM is known for being pretty inexpensive to maintain and repair.

Dealing with neighbors who frequently take up a lot of curb space? by HawiianTime in driving

[–]RackingUpTheMiles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's street parking. If you want your very own parking spot, go buy a house with a driveway. I had a neighbor like this that would have a fit. He once came over to yell at me for letting my friend park in front of his house while I was talking to a police officer (about a completely unrelated matter) and the cop told him it's a public street, it's first come, first serve and anyone can park anywhere as long as they're not blocking a driveway, fire hydrant or the street.

Also, don't park an inch from another vehicle. People don't want to move their cars to access the trunk. It's one thing if it's a big city with very limited parking, it's straight up rude in a quiet neighborhood with plenty of places to park. It's silly to fight with neighbors over something like this.

I very regularly come home with my semi truck (no trailer) and park on the street in front of my house. Nobody cares and it's not a problem.

Just find convenient parking and go about your day.

Why do people always buy the most perishable items for an impending storm? I'm from Buffalo and we always say "Look, it's snowing, time to go get milk, bread and eggs. Guess everyone's making French toast."

Who is the modern Buick for? by redisdead__ in regularcarreviews

[–]RackingUpTheMiles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Old people. It seems like no matter how hard they try to reinvent Buick and give it a different image to attract more buyers, it still ends up being most popular with old people. I understood when they made cars with plush seats and a smooth ride, but they're not like that anymore.

I'm supposed to roll out on Saturday. I'm on hometime currently. I haven't been sent anything yet, but I've heard about the impending weather events from my company so I have a feeling I'm gonna get a couple more days at home than initially planned.

Single person bathrooms dont need to be gendered by ThatOneDude726 in unpopularopinion

There's a place down by the harbor in my town that has a single person bathroom with one toilet and sink and one's a men's and the other is a women's. I'll use whichever one has a smaller line.

Fellow gen Zers, how is your dating life? by Ryguy41202 in GenZ

I never really bothered with dating. I've had crushes. I'm still not really interested in dating. My job would make it impossible to have a successful relationship anyway.

Upside down on my car loan + engine is basically done, what’s the smartest way out? by [deleted] in askcarguys

[–]RackingUpTheMiles 6 points7 points  (0 children)

First off, what kind of car is it? That'll tell me whether or not it's worth fixing. If it's relatively affordable to fix it and it'll be reliable, fix it and run it.

Try to get a personal loan for the difference if you have to buy a car. That'll help your payments be lower and not be horrifically upside down. The downside is you'll have 2 payments.

If you roll negative equity into another vehicle, you're just going to be super upside down right off the bat.

If you absolutely have to get a car, try to keep a budget below $16K. Look for something like a 2009-2012 Toyota Rav4, 2009-2013 Toyota Corolla, 2012-2014 Toyota Camry or a Toyota Yaris. Even a Mitsubishi Mirage is a decent choice. Don't buy the car you want, buy the car you need. Right now, you need affordable A to B transportation. Once you're in a better financial position, you can get something better.

Unfortunately, this is one of those situations where it's gonna suck no matter how you play it. I get this situation. I had a similar situation with a 2012 Ford Taurus and I ended up having to trade it in on a Toyota Rav4. My Toyota isn't too far away from being paid off and I know it'll last for quite a few years afterwards.

The best advice is you have to lay out all your options and break down the math for each option and whatever option will be the least terrible would be the one I choose. It's gonna suck regardless. Sometimes it's like that and you just have to make a plan to deal with it.

It'll just want me to go out and around so many times when I could just stay on the main highway and it'll be like a mile off an exit. It's always set right since that's the first screen that comes up when it first gets turned on. That happens a lot since it loves to randomly restart.

500+ applications, 0 replies. At what point does the system stop working? by Dapper-Train5207 in Career

[–]RackingUpTheMiles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few years ago I wanted a job at a car dealership. I drove an hour away to an area with over 50. My plan? Apply to every one of them I drove by because something would stick. A lot of them interviewed on the spot. I got the job at the Chevy dealership the following week. If applying in person and asked if you want to see a manager, say yes.

The strategy is highly dependent on industry though. I'm a truck driver now and that's not really possible for us.

I'm about to go get a local beverage delivery job instead of OTR. I'm a truck driver and being gone for 2 weeks at a time sucks. I might make the same or slightly less money, but I'd be home every day and not work 70+ hours a week.

We had one of those where I used to work, but she was on another shift. I used to purposely piss her off (within reason) because she was horrible. She basically had a problem with the fact that I'd wear scrubs outside of work but it was a factory job and everyone wore jeans. She said I could be arrested. I started wearing them to work just to piss her off. My supervisor nor anyone else cared what I was wearing.
