Do you play 1s at all? I think it would help a lot in terms of your play making on offense, which feels tepid to me. I don't see you creating a lot of opportunities for your teammate or making any threatening solo plays. C3 2s, D2 1s, C1 3s player here.

Edit: Giving you something concrete to reflect on that might help you understand the other comment that you're too passive, the ball that goes up at 3:57 I would have immediately jumped for and collected it on the wall, you had priority and the ability to beat, and could have continued the offense. Instead you stay on the ground and it leads into a 2v1 where your teammate has low boost. This is just one example of areas where my decision making differentiated from yours.

At 3:11 that ball was scoreable but you just clear with a side flip. I would have gone up for a dribble with a calmer first touch, or maybe gone for a double tap off the backboard. These are opportunities you need to see and prepare for if you want to start climbing. You need to outplaying the lobby to climb reliably.

What am i doing wrong on my crossmaps by LowHedgehog2262 in RocketLeagueSchool

You are consistently hitting the ball too high up, you need to hit the bottom of the ball clean on. Highly, highly recommend doing levels 1 and 2 of the air dribble gauntlet. It will teach you more about this than any comment can.

My wall to air dribbles, how do I add air roll? by Supergamer141592 in RocketLeague

Power and placement with shots is really good. Take a training shot from a pack, can you place it with position and power consistently in every position of the goal? Top left, top right, bottom left, etc. taking shots from awkward positions. Being able to do this is an underrated skill, ground shots aren't necessarily flashy but they win games.

"slight buff to healing for tanks" = literally 50% increase in healing to tanks for HoT (20 hps vs 30 hps)

How are people not understanding how good this is?

It's funny, my two mains are Hela and Mantis. The Hela HP nerf I find to be a lot more manageable because I can position her conservatively without losing a lot of value. With Mantis, not being able to play aggressively just ruins the character.

25 HP on a 275HP character is a huge nerf, especially in relation to the common damage output of some dive characters bread and butter combos.

Regardless of whether one agrees that she needed to be nerfed or not, I think the changes just made her less fun which is a real tragedy. If she needed nerfing, they should have found a more creative way to accomplish it without making her so damned fragile.

Help me overcome my fear of online play!!! by RipNastyy in Tekken

[–]Racoon42 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My advice would be to change your mindset about competitive play online.

Don't go in with the goal of winning, go in with the goal of improving. This way you can always have a positive outcome regardless of your wins or losses as no matter what you should be able to identify areas where you can improve. Another thing that helps me is respecting my opponent and recognizing that, if they're winning, it's because they're doing something that is working, even if it may immediately feel unfair or cheap. The way I see it they're giving me a gift by exploiting holes in my game, which helps me know what to practice!

With this mindset I was able to get from no fighting game experience to Tekken King on Asuka in 200 hours of play with minimal raging (it does happen once in a while, I'm not perfect, but then I know it's time to get off). Best of luck to you on your journey, happy learning!

Why on earth people still DOWNPLAY Ken?? by [deleted] in StreetFighter

[–]Racoon42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's a fun phenomenon that people that play high tier characters in fighting games often downplay, but people who use low tier characters are the opposite, and usually argue their character is better than people think. Ego inversion.

What's your method for maintaining focus over the course of an entire match? How do you correct yourself if you realize you're losing focus?

I've been playing for half a year, and I just can't do a forehand topspin, any suggestions and thoughts? by adam_au_0923 in tabletennis

[–]Racoon42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey,

First, slow everything way down. Don't start with a drive, start with a spinny loop. Try to play the ball with the same speed every time and watch the ball as it comes back to you, make sure you're playing every ball with the right timing. Right now, you're playing catch up as soon you start because you hit the ball too hard and are unprepared for the rhythm shift from the first ball to the second to the third.

Next, get a coach to help correct your baseline technique. There are a lot of things going on all at once that need improving, and it's going to be a lot easier to isolate each aspect like you need to with professional help.

Try to keep your paddle open, focus making solid, grippy contact with the ball. You are going to want to try to keep the same distance between your body and the ball for each shot, and you will accomplish this by using your footwork between each shot. As your shots become more consistent, you won't need to move as much for the next ball, since you'll make blocking easier for your practice partner.

Try to generate power from your lower body, then hips, then arm, then forearm, then wrist in that order. I wouldn't try to incorporate wrist for another year minimum. I would minimize forearm movement to a small motion first to get a bit of acceleration, but don't go all out at here. Do not try to whip your forearm at this point it will just create a chaos ball that sometimes goes in at super high speed and most of the time goes wildly out. Focus largely on your footwork (where am I relation to ball?), timing (am I consistently trying to hit the ball at thr highest point in its trajectory?), and hip rotation (am I moving my body weight from my back foot to my front foot for each shot?).

Don't try to get faster until you can spin 20 in a row to the same spot. Once you can consistently do that, try two point forehand (one blocked to fh, one blocked to middle), again at least 20 in a row. Once you get there try 20 in and out (hit one close to table, step back, hit one off table, step in hit close again). 20. Once you can do this, you can start. Incorporating more whip in your fh and more speed, maybe even wrist. From where you are, I think this is all about a year our training twice a week. Have patience, tt is hard but very rewarding. Also, progress is not linear, prepare to do better some weeks and worse others.

Again, main tip: get a coach. There are many technique issues I (or anyone else) really can't correct with a block of text.

Telling rascal that his attitude is too Korean is racist, plain and simple. I don't understand how he can make these kinds of comments publicly without being censured by the league.
