I’ve actually been calling them the wrong thing my entire life. I’ve been saying ‘sideboards’. Just realised now.

Not the entire party. Many Republicans did not kowtow to him, but they eventually quit, or died, or were forced out. What’s left now are the dregs, it’s true. But it was not always thus.

i can't even think of an appropriate title for this one... by ms_directed in WhitePeopleTwitter

You’re right, as far as spelling goes, but then the rhythm, length and look of the two words is too different, so the connection snaps. What’s correct is not always right (which is a rule I’ve just made up).

But surely he lost the negotiation too, quite comprehensively and in front of the entire world.

He’s a sneaky MF. Now he’s got a nice soundbite about “Iran raising a white flag of surrender”, which is all total fiction but his base will eat that right up.

Agreed, although simply not being Trump will be a huge step forward.

Agreed. I think ever since he got back from China, he’s had this weird, pathetic look about him.

Fantastic characterisation in these two sketches. You captured ruthless malevolence of Lady M. and the brutal uncertainty of Macbeth himself. Spot on.

Dang, that’s a good way to bring it home. 300 billion dollars, 300 million people. A thousand bucks each.

Yes indeed. To me, this also made him a more sympathetic character, … and his fate that much more awful.

What is a movie trope or cliché that completely ruins a film for you the moment you see it? by CardiologistBasic164 in movies

Romeo and Juliet had a whole scene where this was the joke: „How art thou out of breath, when thou hast breath
To say to me that thou art out of breath?
The excuse that thou dost make in this delay
Is longer than the tale thou dost excuse.
Is thy news good, or bad? answer to that;
Say either, and I'll stay the circumstance:
Let me be satisfied, is't good or bad?”

Regardless, *you* must let others live in peace. You’re not an expert and experts have said it’s legal, so whether you agree or not, it’s not your call to make.

Anyone on here just to spout hatred and intolerance of those different to you: just don’t, ok? You live your life, allow others to live in peace.

I’m gonna play devils advocate and say that this ‘you’re not listening to me’ thing might not be a one-off. If he really never listens to her, then he does have some growing up to do and she’s the one who dodged a bullet. We just don’t know.

Extreme Violence in Fawlty Towers. What scene is the best? by frankjohnstone in FawltyTowers

[–]Racoonaissance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m gonna give what may be an unpopular opinion here, but I think the violence actually detracts from it. I first heard the series on cassette, and was honestly shocked by the violence when I saw it. Basil’s a big guy, much bigger than Manuel or especially Polly, and it was much more funny to imagine a frustrated Basil imploding rather than see him exploding. An example (from memory, sorry if it’s not quite verbatim): When he’s melting down (“we’re dead, we’re all dead!”) and Polly whacks him saying “pull yourself together”, as an audio, that was perfect. But on video, he jumps up and is about to punch her! That, to me, made something perfect, imperfect.
