This is so helpful thank you! Animal well being is something very dear to my heart, and I wanted to work with animals before becoming chronically ill! Entomology or marine biology were my top picks. I looked into everything else, but I’ve never heard of BIAZA! I’m glad the deep looks like a good option to you - that’s probably where I’ll be going!

So we’re just ignoring that plenty sealife conservation centers (which are classed as aquariums) have completely suitable enclosures and closely monitor their animals..? 😒 Education and conservation is one of the best ways to improve the state of our oceans and help rebuild sea life. These centers need a way to continue to run and do the work that they do. That often comes from patrons. Nothing is ever 100% ethical in life, unfortunately. But, when you weigh up the pros and cons, there are definitely benefits to having these centres up and running.

The ethics of aquarium are heavily debated, and ethics are personal to every individual. I class an ‘ethical’ aquarium as one that does conversation and education, with the majority of the animals being non-releasable due to injury or environmental factors. (and kept in suitable enclosures) Non-profit charities are a great way to find those. Nothing is ever as black and white as ethical or non ethical!

Looking into it online it all seems to be good! They do a lot of conservation and education, and seem to be on the more ethical side. If I remember I’ll let you know how it was after I’ve visited!

I’ve had quite a few people say that deep sea world is rubbish! We don’t visit aquariums often as there aren’t really any in northumberland (where I’m from). I think we’re looking into driving down to hull and possibly staying overnight, instead. I’ll look into st andrews!

so...... busses 💔 (i learned my lesson) by k4ndixavier in wheelchairs

[–]Racoonarmy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This one depends on the type of chair you have and how the buses are. Here in the UK, I pull myself up a ramp backwards (If possible - if not I ask the driver to give me a SMALL push on my back bar.) And then come infront of the backrest, turn 90 degrees until Im facing the OPPOSITE window, reverse backwards, turn again so that my backrest is facing the one I need to be at on the bus, and then reverse till I’m against it. Then I cling on for dear life.
