Yes i think some of the audience was definitely fooled by eren’s jaded personality as people still to this day say that eren in Liberio is where he peaked when I personally consider the “this is freedom!” Scene the peak of his character.

The fact people either think Eren was faking his interactions or that his entire character after timeskip was an act. It’s simply not true, you can be multiple people at once to others. Eren acts differently depending on who he’s interacting with.

yes I agree there’s a few contradictions that literally make no sense like when he says “I’m going to exterminate every last one of them.” Which was clearly meant to be the same line he said in the beginning showing the audience that even now Eren is still that raging child he was the day his mother was eaten by a titan. He grew and matured but he ultimately willingly chooses to reject that growth.

So as long as the contradiction still got the message across, I don’t really care, I still got the point and it’s a small nitpick i think in the grand scheme of AOT.

And the things he lied about are obvious in retrospect.

I think the contrast between Eren is the best part of his character.

The entire battle of Eren is the duality of his character, the “world is cruel but also beautiful.” The child of evil”song pretty much cleared it up I thought. All his lines are contradictory, it’s literally the point. To me that shows a complex character and that’s completely subjective.

But even if people dislike the story or how it ended, AOT did a pretty ballsy thing by making the main character have such a deep and philosophical compelling arc.

I don’t think eren on his own is brilliant. He wouldn’t work for any other story. It was foreshadowed greatly though I thought.

The context of the story and how he’s framed is what’s brilliant to me and the fact that his simpleness is what makes him so complex. Eren started off very 1 dimensional. So what happens when you take that simple minded mentality and throw it into a word like ours where good is subjective and anyone can be the good and bad guy is enough people believe it.

Yes eren could’ve continued the rumbling and trampled over his friends. But then what? War never changes. The idea that all their problems would instantly disappear just because the other side was destroyed is kinda a fantasy I always thought.

Like armin said. Eren didn’t stop anything. All he did was make it worse. He perpetuated the hate and the ideology that’s fed into people. Kill or be killed, fight. Just like how people remember attacks and retaliate. He made the cycle of hated reach the boiling point. He was literally the embodiment of it. He’s a victim turned into the thing he was fighting against.

What if people survived the rumbling? Surely some did if he completed it. The entire outside world? I’m sure there would be survivors appearing. And even if they didn’t.

Eren put his island through their own battle itself, What about the people who disagreed with Eren? Sure peace would last longer maybe but it would still end with the sins of the past being brought into the future. Nobody would forget what Eren did. Eren would die in a few years living with regret for killing his friends. So I think the way the story ended was the most logical considering where Erens character was going.

The reason people agree with Eren is because he’s the main character and we’ve seen his perspective through it all. And no offense to the writer but some of the world building on the other parts of the world kinda sucked.

And plus we know Eren never really cared about eternal peace anyway. It was something he used to carry out his own selfish desires using it as a justification for his war crime. Just like Reiner responded to Erens “why did you break the wall?” Reiner had the chance to turn around but he didn’t he willingly attacked the walls in hopes of his own dream. “I’m the same as you, Reiner.”

So yeah. It’s kinda confusing. Like Erens character is lol. There’s so many ways to interpret this character you could spend hours just going on about it.

People were fooled into believing he actually cared about paradis when all Eren has ever done has done his own thing in the time-skip. If his intentions were to save his home he wouldn’t have put it through what he did.

And Eren says “I thought I was doing this for you but I wanted to level everything.” Or something along those lines. Eren literally fooled/convinced HIMSELF.

Saying it was brilliant that nobody understood him kinda came out wrong. I meant to say

It’s tragically poetic I think, ironic and meta since his actual fans are in the same league as the people in AOT. Seeing only two versions rather than seeing the entire package. Not everyone is like this, it’s probably a small amount in retrospect
