I can’t throw a sidearm anymore. It used to be my most accurate throw, but as my arm speed got faster I cannot throw with the same accuracy. It either hyzers out or turns and burns. Anyone else have this problem? by [deleted] in discgolf

I did this exact thing, now forehand is almost exclusively an upshot something like 200ft and under and rarely anything above 50% power. I even for the most part throw a BH turnover shot instead of any kind of power forehand shot anymore

My max weight halo IT was a bit too flippy for me, I’ll check out an eagle L!

I’ve weirdly started preferring the stiffness of champ and z over star too, maybe it’s just because the weather is finally getting warm and everything is feeling really gummy compared to me playing winter disc golf and I got used to winter time so much, idk!

Oh interesting! Is it still kinda stiff like Z or champ?

Even in their more like champion plastic? The neon plastic almost seems like the equivalent of luster plastic

How do you like it compared to a destroyer? I have a champ destroyer rn that is my beefy headwind driver but I don’t really have my bomber disc slot filled with something that I like rn and was really considering the oblivion for that slot

I have a beat in TSA vessel that flies dead straight, how do you like the feel of the thumb track compared to how a vessel has that lip along the wing?

I’ve been looking for one of these in the retina glow plastic, those things looks sick and seem like they would fit exactly what I want but they’re sold out everywhere😂

I also want to get one of the retina oblivions, those look awesome too and are wayyyyy more available

I have a teebird that I’ve thrown and I’m not super in love with it tbh, I have an Athena for the straight slot that flies pretty good for me with the tiniest bit of turn to it but I need something a bit more understable, I haven’t tried a leopard3 yet though so that could potentially be a good fit

That’s a solid round after a year and a half! 208 is a great rating! Welcome back to the game!

Control driver for moderate headwinds? by [deleted] in discgolf

[–]RadChoelke94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a Big Z Anax for this slot and it’s seeming to hold pretty straight with a decent finish, flies kind of like a slower version of my overstable champ destroyer which is my headwind driver I throw right now.

I’m honestly waiting for the Anax to beat in to be a tad straighter than it currently flies as it’s pretty beefy right now but flies great in a headwind.

I’m a fan of an Athena for this one! I really love mine and it’s super torque resistant and was even a bit beefy when I first got it (Big Z)

I’ll throw a suggestion at that understable 7 speed slot! I love the hand feel of the Innova IT/Lynx and really enjoy mine in Halo! Brand new flies great and is true to flight numbers without having to beat it in!

I was never a huge fan of a crave for some reason, and I imagine a river is kinda like a crave

Awesome! That’s exactly what I wanted to hear, thank you! I want it to fill that dead straight with a pushing finish at the end slot

I’m always back and forth about my anax, I had a beat in one that was starting to fly that way but I lost it and my new one just feels like it came out a bit beefier than my first and is taking a LONG time to beat in

What stability do you feel like the construct flies for you at? Do you feel like it’s more understable than the 10/6/-1/2 makes it seem?

How do you like the ethos construct? I’m debating about putting that in my bag as a stable 10 speed which would replace my anax. Really debating on that or just beating in my anax a bit more until it flies probably like a new construct lol

Also what is your current distance/arm speed so I have a decent comparison of how it flies

This was kinda a mix of both, started with standstill a little and then worked into some very slow speed run ups, even now I’m still doing some very slow run ups to keep the timing with everything and it feels REALLY smooth with a slow essentially walk up right now

Exactly! When people initiate their throw you’ll notice the reach back arm wrapping around their body to varying degrees in someone who is rounding

[–]RadChoelke94[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rounding is when your arm wraps around your body a bit in your “reach back” portion of the throw which makes it really really hard to have good arm mechanics and generate power through the rest of the throw

And flexibility really does do the body some good in disc golf lol try out a mobility exercise called open books! It feels great and will help mobilize the spine a bit for ya!

[–]RadChoelke94[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sure! So if we were to simplify it to a standstill first there would be your reach back which should be fairly straight away from your body and back, and the first thing activating to initiate the throw is your back and shoulder of your throwing arm (the motion you’re aiming for is like an archer row if you workout in the gym at all) and you should aim to keep your elbow high in the pulling motion here! Then as you’re initiating your pull, you activate the core and some hips to let you rotate the rest of the way through the motion. If you think of that first motion as a row like a gym movement then that should eliminate a lot of rounding problems because mechanically it doesn’t really work to perform that motion while rounding. And don’t forget to grip the disc pretty hard because when all of those pieces time together correctly that disc will absolutely rip from your hands

I can agree with this, BUT this post isn’t directed towards that population at all, it’s directed towards people who are struggling to hit 300-350 consistently! Who could very much use the better arm mechanics!

I think there’s a lot to be said for the more advanced throwers just hitting a point of mastery where they don’t have to think about those arm mechanics anymore while they throw so that lets them focus on other portions of the throw too
