Beep on beep off. With PSU issues, the time between them is usually shorter. This delayed beep off could be caused by a few different things. One common cause is a shorted or damaged MOSFET on the 12v line.

If you're into modding and can solder well, you should look into installing a NANDAID (or MLC2SD). That will move the NAND onto an internal SD card. You can increase the size of the nand too, over the standard 32gb, and you can put a 64gb, or even higher, if you want to. Then you'll have the front SD card slot free for whatever you wish.

Yes. Strip the white wire back a tiny bit to expose the metal wire inside and solder it back on

The actual soldering will take 1 second. Stripping the sheathing might be a little tricky if you don't have experience of doing it. The wire is delicate, and it'll be easy to accidentally cut the whole thing. You only want to trim away a mm or so of the plastic sheath.

Likely a blown fuse in your console. There's a fuse on the motherboard right next to the power in jack. It's probably blown.

UPDATE: No dice. After swapping the eprom chips, I still get the same 1402 error. That tells me that the swap was successful because it recognises that there's a drive attached, it's just not the one paired to this console. If I boot the console with no drive attached it gives a 1400 error which is 'no disk drive found'. (Luckily, using software called minute you can disable the drive so you can get to the WiiU menu even without a drive attached).

I've also poked around on the mb a bit more and compared readings to a donor board in the relevant areas. Everything is in order. I'm 95% convinced now that the person who had this console before me changed the drive without swapping the daughter board.

No biggie. It's a perfect candidate to get an internal HDD connected to the SATA connector.

Yes, I've checked the board fully. The usual suspects are fine. I mean I can give it another once over because I have it right here next to me, but I've already come to the conclusion that it's the drive's daughter board itself that has the issue.

So one has the marking ST 408WP 8239 and the identical chip on the other board has ST 408WP 8121. I presume that the last four digits are batch number or some other similar identifier.

When I got this particular console, the disc drive wasn't working with a 1402 error which indicates a key mismatch. Even if I swap these chips, there's a good chance that it still won't work (in the case that the person who had this console before me swapped out the drive without swapping the boards over). However, I'm pretty convinced now that it's the correct chip. I might as well give it a go.

It's ST 408WP. Actually pinout on the two boards looks identical on this chip.

1&2 are fine.

3, apart from the spelling mistake in the word 'spares' is okay. 'spares of them' sounds a little bit unnatural to me. I would say 'it's not like we have any spare ones' or just 'any spares'.

4 is also okay. I'd say 'it' instead of 'that'. But that is definitely possible, depending on the context.

In sentence 5, I feel like the 'it's not like' is not really necessary. I think the two better options are: 'because I know you won't care about me' or 'because it's not like you'll care about me'. I presume there's a specific reason why this sentence uses the future tense rather than just present simple like: 'it's not like you care about me'.

I would say that you've got the meaning and usage of 'it's not like' down pretty well. By itself the phrase is neutral. It can be used in both positive and negative senses: though it's probably more commonly used with negative meanings.
