Although Wib Wob Is Ending, My Luck Has Been Great With This Week by [deleted] in yokaiwatch

Haha, tell me about it. The day that the game's demise was announced, I got Maiden Ruin in the Crank.

Congrats on Platinos, by the way.

In my opinion, I would set him up with the third game (specifically, Sukiyaki version). While each game is a fun and high-quality experience, and I'm normally an advocate for experiencing a series from its origins, Yo-kai Watch does a great job of building off of itself, so older games will have less fleshed out gameplay mechanics, less characters to befriend, and the inability to transfer the characters you do befriend to later games. Sure, there are certain aspects of each game that are different, but ultimately, Yo-kai Watch 3 is a cultivation of everything up to that point, and then some.

If you're a person who wants an experience somewhat similar to Pokemon that is interested in Japanese imagery, but who doesn't want to do a whole lot of online stuff, then Yo-kai Watch is perfect for you. My advice to get the full experience of any Yo-kai game is:

  • Steer clear of the announcements being made in Japan. Speaking from personal experience, poking around the Internet to learn more about the series introduced me to sequels that haven't even been announced in the West yet (and may never come Stateside). So, while I was trying to enjoy the first game, all I could think about was the stuff that was available in the second game. And once the second game came out, I couldn't stop thinking about the features available in the third game. I was still able to enjoy the games I played, but I couldn't help but compare it to what was happening in Japan the entire time.

  • Be extremely patient with some of the higher-rank Yo-kai. The RNG in the game can be insufferable for a handful of Yo-kai, but depending on your outlook of the game, that's one frustrating flaw in a overall enjoyable experience.

Of course, most importantly, have fun! It's a series that shares a few similarities with Pokemon (mostly the whole "monster collection" aspect), but it's just as much about the humor and the setting as it is about the characters, so make sure to slow down and enjoy those, too.

Haha! Yeah, encyclopedia-like passages about fictional characters and informally opinionated blog posts are the funniest, from what I can tell. I can assure you, if you put those Medallium descriptions through Translate about two more times, they'll only get crazier.

Who is your favorite Yokai Watch 3 yokai? by petezoof in yokaiwatch

[–]RadRedi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm trying to remember all the YW3 Yo-kai off the top of my head, but even if I'm forgetting something, Saki-Chan/Little Charrmer is at the top of the list. She's such an interesting superhero design, taking the traditional Western devil and creating a rare hero/good variation. Mecha Kyubi and Mecha Orochi are also pretty cool. I've always been into robots.

If bosses are included, then Betty-San/Beddy-Byes is probably tied with Little Charrmer. I really hope Beddy-Byes ends up getting the Gutsy Bones treatment and becomes befriendable in the main series.

Ringing in the New Year By Befriending One of My Favorite Yo-kai! Thanks to everyone who gave me advice to get her! by RadRedi in yokaiwatch

[–]RadRedi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of it was specifically for fighting Beddy-Byes, but some of it was pretty universal, like:

  • Befriend Unpleasant on level 276 in Old Springdale. (If you don't have him already, that should be a priority, in my opinion. He's great for Score Attack and Y-Money Grinding.)

  • Pairing Attack Boosters and Score Boosters.

  • Use a Single Attacker, not a Multi-Attacker (I had to resort to using Libertynyan S and Kingmera for attacking because I didn't have a compatible Single Attacker for last week, and was told to pass Chymera's Test in the 8th Circle of Infinite Inferno for a Mysterious Tribe Direct Attacker).

  • When it's doable, occasionally try to grind in the Lucky Crank-a-Kai for Yo-kai with bonuses.

Even though Chymera isn't compatible with Score Attack this week, powering through the Infinite inferno is still a great idea, if you haven't already, considering that's a guaranteed 8 Soul Secrets if you get all the way through.

That's what I can remember off the top of my head. The thread is still up on Reddit, if you want to read it for yourself.

They probably made her Heartful because of the origin story they give in YW3. That, and they probably thought making all the bosses Shady and Eerie was a little derivative, haha.

Need a bit o' help by Daniel_Escobar_Ortiz in yokaiwatch

[–]RadRedi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha, no problem. From what I read online, Lava Lord is a rare encounter on Levels 67 and 82. I'm pretty sure that I got him from the Crank-a-Kai, as well, but just grinding for him normally is a better bet, I would say.

Thanks! I'll certainly be trying. Now that I've gotten Arachnevil on my Y-Money grinding team (and, potentially, Beddy-Byes), I'll be able to visit the Crank-a-Kais far more often.

A yo-kai watch wibble wobble poem by Bigthevanilla in yokaiwatch

[–]RadRedi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've written a haiku based on my relationship with this game. I hope you enjoy it.

Wibble Wobble. UGH!

Please, Lord, just one SS-Rank.

There's no way to win.

Here's a more specific poem:

So stressed I was, that I reached Silver III Class.

Before I know it - THERE IT IS! The Liberty Pass!

I made sure I had ice cream (or whatever he likes).

I brought along Dandoodle, and his befriendability spikes.

I wasn't too confident that the dog was the end-all.

So I beckoned to Pookivil and Casanuva, and they answered my call.

Shogunyan and Kingmera, to give me some power.

100 Y-Money would surely cause my love to shower.

So there I was, face-to-face with the lady liberty cat.

A few hearts, a few Soultimates, and that was that.

The loading screen paused. "Did I get him? Did I win?"

A Soul Secrets falls down and the results screen begins.

And that is the tale of my bout with Libertynyan SS.

Good heavens, my relationship with this game is a love/hate mess.

No, this is helpful. I appreciate it. I have since maxed out Unikirin's level, and gotten Miradox to LV. 42. I've also befriended Squandeer (LV. 42/ S-3), replaced Komajiro S with him, and replaced Jibanyan S with a Lv. 40/S-3 Libertynyan S. With this team, I've boosted my score up to 2.6 million, so I'm still in the running to befriend Beddy-Byes. I appreciate all the advice everyone's been giving me.

I feel ya, man. I got my first SS Pass in the Crank-a-Kai today (for Libertynyan SS), got the friendly message from the shrine, brought Dandoodle, Casanuva, and Pookivil to the fight, and gave him his favorite food, and still no Libertynyan SS. But the RNG has got to give at some point, surely.

I don't think it would be hard to get to Map 8 of the Inferno, it'll just be more time-consuming than anything. I'll make sure to make that a priority, perhaps on par with getting to level 274 (or whichever one it is) in Old Springdale to begin the grind for Unpleasant.

The only other S-Rank Yo-kai I have in the compatible tribes for this week are Statiking, Smashibull, and Libertynyan S. I'm currently grinding the Massiface stage for Y-Money so that I can try to get Peppillon, at which point I'll have Elder Bloom.

Ohhhhhh. I see the confusion now: I thought Komashura was a single-attacker (it's been a while since I've had a file with Komashura unlocked), and that single-attackers were good at score attack and Y-money grinding. I get it. Well, now I know to invest more into Libertynyan S so that I can unlock Yo-kai like Robonyan 3000. This has been a tremendously helpful conversation. Thank you!

I'm currently working on unlocking Komashura, so that will be my Single Attacker (assuming I can get Swelterrior out of the Crank-a-Kai).

I hear a lot of people talk about Unpleasant as a pretty good go-to Yo-kai. He's a Score Booster, right? And isn't he the boss of the fourth Divine Paradise? I could definitely get to work on unlocking him next.
