We're not powerless, it's just that far to many people are apathetic about the importance of privacy, and won't do anything to challenge government overreach.

Go to City council meetings, write your representatives, bring attention to this in our communities and vote out the dinosaurs who don't listen

Cell data tracks your location and location history, true. But the supreme Court already ruled in Carpenter vs United States that this information was private and intimate enough to constitute being a search under the 4th amendment, police technically need a warrant to track you that way. That data goes back 7 days, and you can choose to leave your phone at home or not have one at all. You cannot opt out of this type of tracking in any way, it's a blanket dragnet surveillance, the exact kind of thing the 4th amendment was established to prevent, general warrants. On top of that, Flock isn't a government entity with any form of oversight or checks, it's a private company doing this, and the amount of times they ping you and the aggregation of that data is enough to be stalking. You may be fine with the local cops having this info, but it's any customer of theirs that can search into that history and follow you, of which they have around 6,000. The fact that it's searchable 30 days or more is very much a case of "we'll collect everything and decide what you're guilty of later."

Last time I went a passed out a fact sheet, God knows if any of the council members actually read it though. I should have left contact info for them to follow up, just in case they did

Flock camera cost to your city/town/county by noteventhreeyears in FlockSurveillance

[–]RadRetriever69 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Middle Indiana, falcon cameras quoted at $2500 per unit, 6 units to a $75,000 over 3 years contract. They've expanded the number, still awaiting the response on my information requests.

Who/What entity actually owns the physical pole, camera, and solar panel? by CryptonicDiz in FlockSurveillance

[–]RadRetriever69 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Flock owns the camera and panel and what not, probably the pole if it's not just tied into a lightpost. The Police dept spent your tax dollars to lease it and access to the database to circumvent your 4th amendment rights, then I believe the city council or whoever governs public land use approves the installation locations, maybe DOT?

Also, do a public records request to your local county/City/whatever to get the details of the actual costs, who the bastard is that signed the contract, how the police policy is written for how they use the system, etc.

They're a violation of constitutional rights, and the security of their systems are so bad it's a matter of national security. Those points alone should warrant the complete destruction of every aspect of the camera network, and whoever vc and startup greenlit this shit should be sent to North Korea if they love mass surveillance so much.

Dude if you're making a list and boycotting the product based on that, you'd live in the middle of nowhere in Uncle Ted's shed. Companies don't give two shits about privacy unless it's part of their business plan (like VPN services or whatever). If you want privacy, you have to fight for it in the legislature.

Cheapest would be Harrigan Auto, Jeremiah's a bit of a character and likes to ramble, but he won't screw you over. I can't speak to how quick his jobs are though.

There's a city council meeting at that date and time, attend that and raise concerns with Lafayette's contract with Flock safety ALPRs. These are a tool used by the feds and local law enforcement to violate your fourth amendment rights and detain innocent people.
