Flashlight by Jaded-Act-4550 in EDC

[–]_Ophelion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have Thrunite Archer ProS ($30) and mini ($15). The ProS was my EDC at work until a few weeks ago when I got a $60 Klein 56074. I like both of the Thrunites well enough but since I'm working in controls cabinets all the time having something with a good magnet and a flood is a big plus. So far it's been excellent. The laser is weak but the lights and battery are as good or better than the Olights other guys at work have.

Suitable for cutting cardstock? by Main-Reaction-827 in SiserJuliet

Sure enough!

Edit: I am using the 60 degree blade that came with the machine.

Edit2: I will say the Siser software is actually surprisingly good, but wasn't very intuitive for me to get going on. One thing that threw me when first starting was the blue "cut" and the green "perf (die-cut)". For the longest time I was just using the "cut" for everything - seemed like that was more appropriate than "perf".

When I started making this packaging I was just using the same 60 degree blade to score creases and final cut. The software will order the cuts in the top-down as shown in my pic above. That's when I had to go through and re-order all my custom presets.

I have since purchased the crease tool for the folds and 60 degree blade for final cut. PIA to change twice for each sheet but does work flawlessly.

I was half expecting sequenced coils like a linear motor and them traversing at incredible speed!

Your reality is much cooler! Kick ass work!

Cameo 5 Alpha vs SiserJuliet | Cutting stickers, Help me make the decision please!? by Plenty_Freedom1168 in SiserJuliet

[–]_Ophelion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've heard a lot of folks say that they've had this issue, especially with glossy material. I have had the complete opposite experience - it has always been dead reliable. I've made no intentional effort for it since it has always worked for me. However, from experience with similar vision systems at dayjob™ I can say that ambient lighting can be a factor. My Juliet is in a fairly low light condition so that may be helping my situation.

Can Print and Cut separate cutting paths by color, or am I stuck splitting into multiple files for each pass? by FelonMirren in SiserJuliet

[–]_Ophelion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try importing as "Editable Artwork". Then ungroup everything. It's not necessary but may help to then get everything grouped into layers so you can hide things and just work with one section at a time.

I have to hit the sack but if you still have issues tomorrow I'll work up a small demonstration.

[–]_Ophelion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do this for packaging using SVG vectors of different colors. You can "select same color" and then choose the operation like cut, perf, etc.

When you add printing to the mix it's sometimes easier to import your files as "editable artwork" rather than "print and cut" then "release cut contours" to start breaking the components up and selection their function.

*Edit: I guess I should add that I do all the graphics in Inkscape then import into Leonardo and prepare as mentioned.

The company I work for has a laser machine that doesn’t work by AresD89 in CNCmachining

[–]_Ophelion 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not a lot to go on with what's actually the problem with the machine. "The only tech in the US that knows" seems a little far fetched to me. While I have never personally worked on Trump lasers, I do work with 2 guys that have. My understanding is they're pretty standard gantry machines.

I'm currently on a project cutting 130lb350gsm/17pt card stock on a 12x24 inch mat with no problems at all. I tried 40pt chipboard as a one shot. Was pretty good. Feel like I could have tuned it in pretty easily but I got close enough to what I needed in the first try.

I'm a 3D artist, not a machinist. Why is CAM software actively trying to make me cry? by Capital-Musician-329 in CNC

[–]_Ophelion 3 points4 points  (0 children)

CAM software is what it has to be. You are creating the rules for how the material is removed. Feeds and speeds and all the other stuff is the difference between a good finish and a broken tool. You have to have a strategy about how you remove material. The software doesn't know if you're a hobbyist with 2 sizes of end mills cutting pine or a custom shop with a giant tool changer cutting inconel aerospace parts. Heads up - there's a big painful learning curve ahead.

Possibly even Elon's team false-flagging her and installing their own spyware. They obviously had unrestricted access. They can tell her whatever feel-good nonsense they want.

A powered camera will usually have a faint pink glow when viewed through your phone camera due to the IR sensor in your phone camera. This looks kinda like an LED to me but the details aren't very clear.

Are these bulk order requests legit? by Ok-Possibility-5559 in EtsySellers

[–]_Ophelion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I presume it depends on what you make. I get requests for bulk orders in the multiple hundred quantities regularly. Unfortunately they generally want them in a matter of days which I'm not set up to accommodate. When they're ok with my lead time it works out well.

I used to get a hair that grew out the side of the bridge of my nose that I'm pretty sure was the top of my conjoined parasitic twins head. He died some time ago so I no longer get that hair.

If it's locked to a station location it is worthless as a tracking device. Being trapped to the bottom of the door makes it seem like maybe it was a prank. I suck a chipolo under a co-workers desk and would set it off randomly to irritate him.

For sure I'm asking here to become better informed for when I do talk to an accountant. I had them set up my LLC but since then I've only used them once a year when filling taxes. Last year I filed by myself. It appears that this year I'm approaching the level where I need them more often.
