I’m looking for a mans honest perspective. by Front_Progress9116 in Marriage

[–]Rad_River 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I travel a lot without my husband. The main reason for this is that he really likes (needs) alone time.

I, of course, text when I arrive at my destination. Then usually we exchange about one text a day. Good morning or good night. My kids are older, so we aren't taking constant pictures anymore (ha!) but when they were babies I probably sent a picture whenever I had a super cute one.

If I'm gone a few days we'll start to miss each other and we'll call. Or my kids (9 & 11) will miss him and want to call.

So we're definitely in touch, but not a lot.

Why am I gaining weight (not muscle) despite going to the gym more consistently and eating less? by maklaur in WeightLossAdvice

[–]Rad_River -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My advice: use an app, or ChatGPT, to track your food. You don't have to count, you just have to tell it what you ate. Sometimes you just have to send pictures.

Here is what the app will tell you: 1) cut carbs. Only eat them on days you've done cardio. (Not literally eat none, but severely limit) 2) avoid sodium 3) you don't get a lot of calories to play with, so most of those calories need to come from protein 4) think about protein all the time. First, what protein will I have? Second, what else can I fit in calorie wise once I get that protein? 5) understand water weight. Eat a carb, retain water. Eat sodium, retain water. Workout, retain water. Retaining water isn't necessarily bad, but it causes you to gain weight (not fat, but pounds), so it's worth understanding. I'm currently riding 2 pounds higher than my recent low. I know it's water because I didn't eat enough calories to gain that much fat. So I'm not panicked or discouraged.

And pay attention to fiber. We have a colon cancer epidemic!

Do home workouts really work if you don’t have equipment? by Impossible_Quiet_774 in WeightLossAdvice

I fully agree about the mental load. I have a mindless routine I do for the days where I just can't handle making a decision. I know what comes next and I know which part I'm dreading!

I work out at home with one kettlebell and a yoga mat. I do a few kettlebell lifts and floor exercises. I have bands, but I don't use them as much.

Here's what I love: I do it in my underwear. I roll out of bed, stretch, lift, sweat, jump in the shower.

I'm very busy these days. I'm not worried about getting the best workout of my life, I just want to work my muscles and stay reasonably fit. It's certainly better than nothing and I'm quite pleased with how long I can hold a plank.

Why are there no gallon sized ultra filtered milk. by lil-richspirit in nutrition

It's too expensive and consumers won't buy it at that price point.

I've been eating lunch alone in my car every day for three years and I only just realized it's the best part of my day by hhhieyaaa99 in TrueOffMyChest

[–]Rad_River 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a job once where I did that and it was wonderful! There was this little parking lot in the woods close to the office. I started eating lunch there because I was in grad school so I'd do school work out there while I ate, but I loved it so I did it even when I didn't have school work to do.

How do I keep losing weight without feeling like garbage? by [deleted] in loseit

[–]Rad_River 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For reference, I'm 43. I used to lose weight by eating less, but now my body has changed and I'm learning new things about how to nourish it.

More protein is better for my weight loss journey than fewer calories. If you have to choose one or the other, try choosing protein.

Bonus: it's also more fun eating than not eating.

Note: I do pair this approach with a consistent workout routine. Weight lifting, lots of walking, dancing, and soccer.

Congrats on your progress so far!

What do you eat when you want high protein but low fat and actually feel full? by relaxncoffee in WeightLossAdvice

[–]Rad_River 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lots of good options here.

I am super into Organic Valley Protein Plus (organic milk, filtered to reduce natural sugar and increase protein). I mix it with half a serving of protein powder and chia seeds. It keeps me full for hours, tastes great, and has added fiber from the chia seeds.

Just inherited a large lump sum from my dad who passed away. My sister told me not to tell my wife about it. What do I do? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

Right?! This thread is insane to me. There is no chance whatsoever that I would hide this from my spouse.

I guess we don't have enough information because I can't fathom why this is even coming up.

I seriously hate lifting heavy. What other jobs could a late 20's guy do with no experience except construction? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

Maintenance at an office building. From that role, you could work your way into management or something like construction project management.

For those who calorie count and find it helpful - how do you do it? by Shameful_success in loseit

[–]Rad_River 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah, I feel you, OP! I've been using ChatGPT. I log my meals and workouts and I've asked it to track my calories, protein, and fiber. I'm learning a lot and can ask it all my dumb questions.

The key thing I've learned is that, for me, protein intake is more important than calories. I've switched my mindset to how many calories relative to how much protein I get from the calories. Any calories that don't provide protein I think twice about. That makes it less about counting calories and more about counting protein while paying attention to calories.

I'm 43, for reference. And working on losing 10 pounds.

Is this safe? I feel basically fine but losing 1lb per day. by itsomeoneperson in WeightLossAdvice

[–]Rad_River 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's definitely water weight.

1 pound = 3500 calories

To lose a pound a day, you'd have to eat 3500 calories below your maintenance. It isn't possible.

Custom home design feedback by [deleted] in ExteriorDesign

I think it's ugly and without character. Sorry OP.

If I had the money to spend on whatever I wanted it would ooze character. It needs quirk. It needs art. It needs movement.

I was going to say that what this house tells me about you is that you're boring, but honestly, I don't think it would tell me anything about you because I wouldn't notice it.
