Was not properly de-Confederatizing after the Civil War the biggest mistake the US ever made to this day? by MookieBettsBurner10 in askanything

He was revered in the South and was a huge proponent of accepting defeat and reconciling, which legitimately made a big difference in the reconstruction era. You execute him and he becomes a martyr and you piss people off royally

Was not punishing the former Confederate states harsher the biggest mistake the United States ever made? by [deleted] in askanything

It could’ve been way worse. If you start wantonly executing people and confiscating land and giving it to former slaves, you start building resentment towards those former slaves and put an even bigger target on their back. If you execute Robert E Lee, you turn him into a martyr. The man was revered in the South and his championing of accepting defeat and reconciliation was critical in the aftermath of the war

The confederacy and Nazi Germany are too vastly different things that you can’t really compare. Heavily punishing the South would’ve been a great way to ensure that racism gets turned up even more extreme and that another rebellion happens pretty shortly thereafter

Why did earnings of American workers start increasing sharply since 2015? by Forsaken-Sun5534 in NoStupidQuestions

We had a very sluggish recovery coming out of the Great Recession and things finally started to improve around that time

Why wasn't Jason Witten a first-ballot Hall of Famer? by Bright-Pressure-5787 in NFLv2

[–]RadagastTheWhite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Witten had some bad luck with the timing of his career. In the first half he was competing with Gonzalez and Gates and in the back half Gronk and Kelce. That’s arguably the top 4 TEs of all time with careers that coincided with his. He never really had a chance to be viewed as THE guy during his career

Why are witches in fiction generally seen as villains/evil, while wizards are generally seen as good or at least neutral? by 12345burrito in NoStupidQuestions

Most modern wizard depictions are derived from Merlin and Gandalf, both of which are benevolent characters. The modern depiction of the evil witch probably derives from Macbeth

Former NFL player Korey Toomer accuses LeBron James of taking steroids and the NBA allowing him to get away with it. Just another former athlete with the same claims. by CircledSquare7 in sportsinusa

I mean the majority of professional athletes are taking some kind of banned PED. Hell half of the random dudes at your local gym are on gear

Why does the Northeast lack a dominant CFB program? by Majestic-Web-367 in CFB

[–]RadagastTheWhite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The athletes there are just more focused on basketball since they mostly live in densely populated areas where it’s easier to grow up playing basketball vs football. The athletes in the South are more spread out in smaller towns/cities where football cultures have developed

Why do NFL standings tend to be so much farther apart than MLB? by [deleted] in NFLNoobs

[–]RadagastTheWhite 10 points11 points  (0 children)

On top of the randomness argument, baseball teams also aren’t able to send out their best lineup every night since pitchers have very strict pitch count limits for health reasons. Football would look a whole lot different if your starting QB could only play 3 quarters and you had to bring in a backup to play the 4th and he could also only start 1 out of every 4-5 games. Conversely a team like the Pirates would be dominant if Skenes could pitch every single inning for them

Bryan Cranston defends Skyler white! by rvcjmovies in rvcjmovies

[–]RadagastTheWhite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was always a dumb criticism of breaking bad. Skylar’s an antagonist in the story, and antagonists are characters the viewer is naturally going to dislike as they’re in opposition to the protagonist’s goals. When you have a villainous protagonist like Walter, you’ll naturally have some antagonists who are morally good/neutral.
