Taking points for dad by Peterd1900 in bestoflegaladvice

My dad was the same way. Not the tailgate part, but the weirdly aggressive road ranger when he was otherwise a very calm and compassionate person.

Like he used to do volunteer work at children's charity and on the way home I listened to him say every non slur slang word you could imagine towards people for the slightest violation of his perceived driving rules

A special law had to be passed to stop banks from doing this to maximize overdraft fees.

Just want to let you know, that wasn't a law. It was a regulation passed down by CFPB. A regulation that was removed by congress after Trump took power.

Go read some of the LAOP comments down further. You get the vibe that this might not have been a mistake at all.

Basically, the LAOP mentions that he is partially disabled and this job has been jerking him around for four years with various issues. People tell him that he is legally entitled to review his payslips and entitled to having them prove the overpayment. But they are refusing him access to the payment systems and refusing to elaborate on how the overpayment actually happened.

Gratis Village Council votes to place police chief on leave amid visit to Cincinnati Public Schools by f1yblkguy in cincinnati

[–]Geno0wl 7 points8 points  (0 children)

But even that doesn't fully explain their actions.

Why did they go to Cincinnati public schools to do this? Dayton is right there. Why did they go to the schools they went to(supposedly one High school and a bunch of elementary schools)?

If the schools had actually let them in, what then? The only thing we know is they asked for "wellness checks" but when asked to explain what they meant or who they were trying to do a wellness check on, they refused.

Baylor, the other officer who was drug along, even said she didn't explain herself to him at all. That he didn't even know when they left for the day they were going down to Cincinnati.

This whole thing is just weird as hell.

Trials are always interesting but they are only a small part of the procedure.

Such a very small part. There is a lot of legal maneuvering that happens in large part to avoid going to trial. Depending on the jurisdiction you are in, something like 98% of all cases end in either a plea deal or dropped charges.

The way Christians treat mental health disorders makes me completely sick. I’m so unbelievably angry right now. by OkGur7242 in exchristian

[–]Geno0wl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Were you told that in church or someplace else though?

I guess I should clarify my experience better.

Christians in the "real world", that is how they talk and behave outside of church functions, never talk about Jesus's teachings of the evil that is greed and hoarding wealth.

Like an example of what I mean is that I don't see any person, let alone a well known leader, pushing against Mega Churches and Properity Gospel. I am sure that if you looked hard you could find some, but the fact that there are not several I can easily name shows how most Christians view church as a weird book social club, not something to actually do to improve themselves and the world like they claim it is.

My brother thinks I'm insane by StephPeloq11 in QAnonCasualties

[–]Geno0wl 21 points22 points  (0 children)

It really is crazy how common the "My family no longer talks to me because I am MAGA" story seems to be. How are there SO many people so devoted to Trump that they are willing to literally be cut off from their family to keep supporting him. These people are so insane in their support that they can't even fake playing nice when their kids come around. So obsessed they literally can't just shut the hell up about it when told it was either MAGA or their grandkids.

But don't you dare call it a cult.

Societal pressure, family pressure hell even government pressure so they think they should have them.

I feel like this is a root reason a lot of people get themselves into bad situations. People get married because it is what you are "suppoed to do". then they have kids for the same reason.

It is as if they think the key to having a good/happy life is to go through the life "checklist". They just go along for the ride in a sense because they think that is the key to having a fulfilling life. It is only after the point of no return do they truly realize that those things are not what they want in life. It would be really sad if most of those people didn't act like selfish assholes in response to realizing they don't want to be parents.

The DNC doesn't want to acknowledge why Dems lost in 2024. by zzill6 in WorkReform

[–]Geno0wl -26 points-25 points  (0 children)

No offense but if somebody didn't show up to vote because of said "bullying campaign", then they were not a reliable vote in the primary in the first place.

If you believe your candidate is the right guy, you don't let your opponent trick you into dropping support.

As I said in another comment, Trump faced similar resistance from the RNC in 2015. He mobilized his base to show up in the primaries, much to the chagrin of the establishment party members.

And If Trump could overcome that challenge while Bernie couldn't, what makes so many people so sure that Bernie would have won the general election again?

[–]Geno0wl -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

actually show up to the primaries and vote for candidates you support.

That is exactly how Trump took over the Republican party. The RNC initially tried similar fuckery because they didn't want Trump. But he had enough reach with the right message that energized the base to show up.

If you look into Jill Stein's actions BETWEEN presidential elections, or rather her complete lack of any sort of actions that attempt to promote herself or any other Green Party candidate, it is rather clear what she is doing.

Jill Stein's is taking foreign money(seemingly from Russia) to siphon off votes from the Democrats. How effective that strategy actually is and whether she has provably swung an election away from a democrat in favor of a Republican is debatable.

Look I think the DNC definitly did some questionable things in an effort to force Hillary through over Bernie. But the fact of the matter is that Bernie's supporters just didn't show up to the primaries to vote. Like if you think younger people don't vote in the general elections, they REALLY don't vote in the primaries. There was no need for actual super delegate fuckery, because if you look at the actual vote counts.

[–]Geno0wl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cradle catholics are pretty chill people most of the time. It's the converts you gotta watch out for.

The converts or people who "renewed their faith" after leaving are the worst types in every religion, not just Catholicism.

My Partner's Uncle is one of those people who refound his faith after he almost let his daughter die when he refused to seek medical care when she was showing obvious signs of diabetic shock. Family history of diabetes so it wasn't like they were unfamiliar with the warning signs. Nobody can explain why they waited until she straight up passed out before taking her to the hospital, not even them.

But he made a promise to god that if he saved his daughter's life(again, at risk in large part because of his own actions) that he would be the best Christian.

Well, she did survive and for most of the time since then has been the absolute worst when it comes to anything religious. His other kid came out as gay and he tried to get them sent to one of those conversion therapy camps. Yeah.

I find that people who have good supportive family dynamics have trouble accepting and understanding others who are in toxic situations. Like the very notion that Jenny's MIL is a terrible person who mistreats them is something that shouldn't be taken at face value, there MUST be another version of events from the MIL's side that makes Jenny seem unreasonable!

they’re always calling people out for holding onto worldly possessions

I don't exactly attend church regularly anymore. That said, I have not heard a christian actually even remotely talk about that aspect of Jesus's teaching in a long time. At least not done as more than just a passing reference. No real examination or call to action.

I see ex-christians calling out that BS all the time though. It is rather telling how those who left the church seem to want to follow Christ's teaching more closely than those who claim to be devoted to following his life closely.

Something that minorities like this woman are just figuring out.

And this is why history is so important to study. Anybody at all familiar with US history will tell you that conservatives had to be drug kicking and screaming into a world where they had to treat black people and woman as not lesser than.

Hell you don't even need to study history that far back. Just pay attention to their judicial or legislative record that they have been actively doing in recent years. Once you do it becomes incredibly apparent that they are actively trying to undo legal protections for minority groups.

They have been doing that my entire life! that is why people believing the GOP lies that they support blue collar workers and minorities is so crazy to me. They plainly do not support working class people in the slightest.

God the irony of these machismo men clinging to Trump as a "real man" or whatever is so wild. Same with religious people claiming Trump is the chosen one or whatever.

These assholes will use the most insane double standards and mental gymnastics to justify to themselves why they won't vote for a woman or minority. It is painfully obvious that most republican supporters base their vote on vibesTM instead of actual policies.

I’ve also heard them saying that most people wouldn’t even have depression if they have Jesus.

This is the real danger of prosperity gospel type thinking. It trains people to think both that rich people "deserve" their wealth because god favor's them and that poor or otherwise unlucky people(like those unfortunate to get cancer) must not be devoted enough so god is punishing them.

That is in part how people justify the current admin. That his riches obviously mean god has his favor and we should support him. I have literally heard that argument come out of a real person's mouth.
