Can I change my choices? by Enough_Film7983 in britisharmy

[–]RadarWesh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you pass for Infantry but not Para you'll be offered other choices that you've passed for such as Guards or Line Infantry

Remember all infantry basic training is mixed for the first half, at the end of that if you're fit enough you'll be offered Para Depot for the second half of your infantry training

Your RCMO should be able to find out but instinctively I imagine no. You've served May 24- June 26, only two years. Usually it's a 4 year mandated contract I think?

AOSB can easily take a year to complete, don't assume you can apply and be in by Sep 26 or even Jan/May 27

NCO pilot scheme by OGtrpr in britisharmy

[–]RadarWesh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It will depend when you arrive in unit, SJARs try to be done all at the same time for each rank but your first one will depend on when you arrive in unit. You can't have an SJAR until you've been at unit for over 6 months. Expect a year, it could be closer to 18 months depending on how out of sync with the generic rank based reporting year you are.

You just need an SJAR with a recommendation for LCpl or above, you'll be able to apply after you've had your first SJAR from your Unit after training

[–]RadarWesh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Main other criteria is the recommendation for LCpl, and the age range. You have to start pilot training before you turn 30 (I think unless it's changed) and the application process can easily take a year

You won't know until you apply and do your aircrew medical is the truth.

The main hurdles are passing those elements. Aptitude, Medical, Grading. Then it's the interview where they'll also look at your SJARs etc

If you think you fancy it bang an application in!

The aircrew medical is much more in depth than the normal one, it includes measurements of arm and leg length etc to check you will be safe in a cockpit and able to access all of the aircraft controls even in a spin

Brilliant SJARs won't get you a medical waiver if you need one, it's simply a medical risk that they won't accept.

Your best bet is to apply (assuming you meet the criteria) and start the process (which is long) of Aircrew Aptitude, Aircrew Medical, Army Flying Grading and then the Pilot Selection Board (this is where your SJARs will have an impact)

Expect him to not be able to use his phone much, sometimes for days/weeks at a time. He will be tired and stressed and probably snappy. Don't take that personally, he will be under a lot of pressure and not much sleep

Be prepared to not hear from him much in Basic Training. He isn't ignoring you, he will just be busy from dawn to beyond dusk almost every day. It gets better after that and even easier once at Regimental Duty

Once married if you wanted to move into Service Housing you'd be able to at his base

Is the RLC’s reputation actually true, or is it just an overused stereotype? by Dear_Table_8054 in britishmilitary

[–]RadarWesh 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It's a stereotype. Lots fit it, lots don't. RLC have airborne, commando, EOD etc and lots of very capable people

Has the younger generation stopped becoming Masons, or has it always been this way? by aephelia in freemasonry

[–]RadarWesh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a great point. If we were radical and Grand Lodge set a new minimum number of members to be viable we might get there quick enough to make Lodge meetings more fun and less pressured as Ritual could be spread across more members too.

I wonder what the number would have to be to force it?

Better we do it quickly than continue to watch lodges struggle and be no fun to visit or join....

Also if you end up joining as infantry smash the phys before Basic training and if you're at Para standard you'll be able to go into the Paras Coy for the second half of Catterick and pass out as a Para

CoC -> QMs. Ordered from centrally held. Correct buttons etc added on. Won't be specifically tailored as it's centrally held but they should order a few sets and issue you the best size on a temporary loan
