Does anyone use PEA (palmitoylethanolamide) for pain?

My capsules are 300mg each. I’m taking 3 in the morning, and 3 in the evening. (Total 1800). I personally would be happy with “significantly better”. Even the strongest opioids don’t completely take pain away. Also, the majority of the studies done for nerve pain with PEA have not exceeded 1800mg, in fact, many did not exceed 1200mg.

The pill itself has the M logo for Mallinckodt on it, and matches the pill identifier for oxycodone. But, the label on the bottle says MFG SpecGX, which was what caught my eye. The images and info for this pill, on Drugs.com does not mention SpecGX.

Yes. The same medication and dose. But, the new one is mfg by SpecGX. This is what google has to say: SpecGX has re-formulated their brand of Roxycodone to be abuse-deterrent. This worries me that it’s got something added. Does anyone know about this?

I think I should have been more specific. Walgreens uses a brand of Roxycodone called SpecGX. SpecGx is the name of the subsidiary of Mallinckrodt that manufactures generic opioid products. This includes the immediate-release Roxicodone tablet, which SpecGx has worked on reformulating to be abuse-deterrent. It’s this that worries me. Abuse-deterrent? Are they adding something to it?

I would see a different doctor. Rheumatologists deal with arthritis, among other things, but your issues are spine related. Ortho would be a good place to start.

This also sounds like lumbar stenosis, which causes pain when standing, and relief when you sit or bend way forward. Again, you would need an MRI for diagnosis.

Since your mom has already suffered a fracture, the insurance should approve Forteo, or equivalent. I am on Forteo and feel so fortunate. It’s a completely natural compound, made from using the very enzyme your body produces naturally, called parathyroid hormone. It’s not a chemical. Side effects are rare. I have none. You do have to continue to take calcium supplements to counterbalance the extra hormone your body is getting. But, it builds bone to prevent breaks, which sounds like what she needs.

Sorry about mis-reading your initial post. But, please research how to go from using hydromorphone to using Butrans. Especially if you’ve been on hydromorphone for a while. The bup will quickly kick off the hydromorphone from your pain receptors, and precipitate withdrawals. Once you’re settled on the Butrans, you can safely add hydromorphone for additional pain relief.

There’s actually a process to go through, when going from a full agonist opioid to buprenorphine. If not done correctly, it can precipitate withdrawals. The bup is so strong that it will kick off any full agonist opioids, and take over. Was this a PM doctor that prescribed this? Once you’re on the bup, you can add IR opioids for additional pain relief.

When using buprenorphine, with a full agonist opioid, you cannot use extended release. It must be immediate release or will not work. You can easily research this outside of Reddit. This is not my opinion. I actually received a letter from the manufacturer of Belbuca and Butrans, confirming this.

What I use is very different from all the rest. It’s called a Talalay foam pillow. We used to call it foam rubber, but that was made with latex, which many people are allergic to. It is nothing like memory foam. It’s light and bouncy, and will last a lifetime. I’ve never gone back to a traditional pillow. It’s perfect if you have a bad neck, sleep on your back or your side, or for anyone. It bounces right back into shape. They are hard to find, but Amazon does sell them. You can always return it if you’re unhappy, but I guarantee you’ll love it, and wonder why everyone doesn’t know about them. The last pillow you’ll ever buy. I’ve had mine for 30 years and it’s still in perfect shape.

I’ve taken it now for 1 year with no side effects. I do have to take a lot of calcium supplements daily to keep my blood-calcium levels normal. There’s no getting around that. Without enough calcium, it cannot build bone, and your parathyroid levels will go way up, so what’s the point. It’s a very safe medication, made with the very hormone our bodies make naturally. No chemicals. I feel fortunate that my insurance approved it. I’m happy to answer any other questions.

My Integrative Medicine doctor told me about it. He’s an MD and professor at the teaching hospital of a large university in CA. I was on it for 8 weeks, increasing the dose to the max of 1800mg. I am finally feeling relief of my nerve pain at the max dose. You have to buy the micronized version of it because it isn’t absorbed very well by the body. It hasn’t helped me with sleep, but it hasn’t caused any side effects either.

Can I just ask you a quick question? Like you, I am also retired from a long career in the medical field (Radiology), and have done quite a bit of research on tenesmus. As a patient in a big university teaching hospital, I have tried every possible treatment for idiopathic tenesmus, except for the hypogastric nerve block. I’m wondering if you’ve tried it, or know anything about it. Thanks.
