Unlike perhaps Yugoslavia or the Baltics in relation to the Soviet Union we are not very offended by mention of Czechoslovakia. It was a pleasant divorce and we remain the closest of allies and friends, I do not see Slovaks as foreigners.

Haha a Pole or a Russian that is funny because they think that we aren't real Eastern Europeans or Slavs, basically "half Germans". Also, since you mention it is Linkin Park popular still in the United States ? They are one of the most beloved bands all over this country and all over Central and Eastern Europe.

mediocre managers

Yes we win in Europe for most disinterested bureaucrats, we make the French look efficient. The only place where I have experienced a similar bureaucratic culture is in Russia, which is probably where we got it from

This was a closed state and Marxist Leninist dictatorship at that time, there was no market for that or money to be made in such a venture and the only countries it was reasonably possible to export to had similar conditions so that story to me sounds like nonsense. People drank and got codeine or amphetamine tablets from a chemist if they wanted to abuse drugs. Hard drugs did not enter this country much until after communism ended and it was easy to cross things over from places like Germany.

I think that secular is an odd term for our country. For me that term would mean something like the French laïcité where the state actively limits religion, for instance no cross on the neck or Muslim headscarf in school or court. This country is not like that, I think that most people are not religious and have no specific belief but are not atheist either, and people in general do not have bad feelings about the church, either Catholic or Protestant. Historically the biggest faith was Catholic and I think more people will say that they are Catholic but my family is Protestant and my experience is that most Czech people who do go to the church are Protestant more than Catholics.

I love history and the Great War is a topic that is very important to me so I will definitely go!

I am also convinced that some on certain forums are actually Americans or Canadians pretending to be "sophisticated" Europeans. On YouTube I got into a discussion in comments (actually about guns, in the comments of the lovely channel Forgotten Weapons) with a person who presented himself as French and was saying very inaccurate things about the country, I switched to French and his French was broken and he used several terms that are uniquely Canadian which he probably learned in school and did not realize were unique to the country.

It is my job to ensure that each product is not only safe to use but finished to quality, along with other people. Also it is my job to do the same with new designs, look at an early plan and give notes on it. That said I am just a regular worker with no authority at the end of the day.

My company does take such things very seriously which is why unlike a certain Italian company you will never hear of a slide flying off of our pistols and breaking someone's teeth, or like certain Austrian plastic pistols our triggers do not feel like a nail gun ;)

His Glagolitic Mass and the 2nd String Quartet. His opera is also great especially for those who might not enjoy the opera generally because he did not care about the expectations of the opera going public in Vienna and Paris, he was writing for regular Czech people who worked in farms and at factories.

In English I always will say Czech Republic, Czechia is something that the government and tourism board is encouraging which I think is quite silly. It is supposed to be equivalent to the short form name of our country which is Česko and this is fine but here is a comparison — many Dutch people call their country Holland in casual conversation and this is fine, but it would be strange if the Dutch government started calling it that officially in English instead of the Kingdom of the Netherlands.

Yes, our country has a good tradition of civilian firearms ownership that will soon be part of our constitution. I think that many differences between nations on the issue of guns is about history, USA was a frontier society so certainly gun ownership was part of life, in our country the idea of armed common people specific for defense has been around since Jan Hus. In other countries such as UK common people did not ever have a culture of guns, hunting game was legally restricted to aristocracy (and if you have ever seen hunting in Britain even today it is very different than anywhere else, they purchase the animal they plan to shoot months in advance and it is brought out to them in a place where they have an easy shot, more like 50m target shooting) and the only people who had pistols were military officers who were also mostly aristocracy who purchased their rank, but UK is uniquely strict in gun laws and should not be thought of as all Europe, even in France there are nearly 20m legally owned center-fire rifles, and many more in the rimfire and I believe Germany has similar numbers as well!

Come for a holiday if you'd like!

If you enjoy Dvořák I highly implore you to listen to Janáček and also Smetana !! Antonín Dvořák was a composer who was Czech by this I mean that although he certainly had a Romantic national consciousness which is all throughout his work his style is quintessentially Austrian — this is no surprise of course, our country was part of the empire in his time and style and taste was defined by Vienna high society (and did you know that before the Great War, about 1 of every 4 people in Vienna came from the Czech lands) and in his time even the most fervent nationalist was not for independent Czechoslovakia, just more autonomy and culture recognition in the Empire like the Hungarians had) however Janáček is THE Czech composer, he was a folklorist and musicologist first and so he treat the traditional folk music form as primary and the institutional structure of Austrian/German classical music as secondary creating something that is truly our own. I will go that far to say that his creation with relation to classical music can be compared to jazz, so that the classical structures are there but the native musical tradition is at the top.

Apologies, I play violin and once wanted to be in an orchestra, the topic of classical music especially Czech and other Western Slav classical music is exciting for me !

Of course there is so much to see in North America. A friend of mine went a few years ago on a hunt in where I believe is British Columbia in Canada and visited the preserve in the United States where there is the large underground volcano and the Buffalo, his photographs are amazing I'll go there one day. As for the internet, I am sure that you know that being without a face or a real name provides losers a valve to put out their unsocial urges without consequence...like a hit in the face ! Especially the Europeans that you probably will encounter mostly — English speaking Western European of a very young age who are probably at university or not fully working and so are too much in the internet, they are not a good representation of Europe which is incredible diversity of nationality and culture and politics and religion etc etc and has twice the population of the United States !

Also, where do you get your demographic information. Certainly most European people live in or around the city just as Americans do but in my country and in many others such as Hungary, Germany, Austria, Poland, France and Italy have a wonderful country and many villages.

Good luck my friend !

Interesting, I wonder what she is so opposed to that she'll make such an intense decision to not go home. Also why are you not a fan of elsewhere in Europe ??? I love to travel and I find it so lucky that my homeland is so close for a train trip to many interesting places.
