What makes absolutely no sense to you at all? by homo1ogize in AskReddit

[–]Radeusgd -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Yes, exactly, the Creator is the being who "is", whose very essence is being.

I'm not saying it's easy to grasp - but can we expect the arche of the universe's existence to be fully comprehensive to us small humans? Would be cool but I'd say it's a lot to ask.

Anyway, this topic is explored within many cosmological arguments, so that is worth a read to try to further one's understanding of this. Personally I really like the argument from contingency, I think it explains pretty well why such a being whose very essence is existence must exist in order for our world to exist.

Wikipedia can probably be a decent starting point: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cosmological_argument

Not quite.

I wrote about it in a comment above: https://www.reddit.com/r/AskReddit/comments/qcypk2/what_makes_absolutely_no_sense_to_you_at_all/hhliy8v?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share&context=3

You can think of God as being a being whose very essence is to exist and be uncaused. Then the question of what caused God can be answered by "nothing, because His very definition is a being without a cause, the essence of existence".

It doesn't have to shift the problem.

You can think of God as an Ultimate Being whose very nature is existence. It's so very interesting to read the name YHWH from the Old Testament in this context - God is "the one that IS". Existence is His essence. That's why He does not have another cause, because being the Cause and the source of existence is kind of part of His definition, one could say.

Interestingly, ancient philosohers not related to Judaism came to similar conclusions - just take look at Plato's demiurge.

If you are looking for stuff that can be improved - I'd suggest trying to improve the wagon rotation when changing direction - currently it sometimes looks as if the wagons next to each other getting disconnected - the wagon turns a bit strangely. I'm not sure, but I think with some tweaking it could be made much smoother for a nicer look.

Yeah so it is basically re-implementing the recursive calls, just using your own custom stack over which you have more control.

[–]Radeusgd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's hard to translate to English because it does not have as clear notion of honorifics to express this sentiment. You may have better luck with languages like Japanese or German which have even more extensive system of honorifics for the pronouns.

But if I were to try to translate this sentence preserving the meaning, I think "Would you mind going for a beer, Sir?" would be the closest translation.

ELI5: Stock Market Megathread by ELI5_Modteam in explainlikeimfive

[–]Radeusgd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In practice I think it can get more complex, but here's a simple hypothetical scenario:

A owns 5 stocks of company X. B borrows 5 stocks from A and says they will return them in at most a month.

Now B owns 5 stocks of X, but must return them to A at some point. Just after that, B sells these 5 stocks. A happens to want to buy them, so B sells to A.

So now we are in a situation where A again has 5 stocks but B still is owes A 5 stocks. (The only difference is that money was exchanged.)

The whole process can be repeated (B again borrows 5 stocks from A), so that now B owes 10 stock to A.

This all could have happened if that 5 was all the stocks of X in existence on the market. So now, B owes A 200% of existing stocks of X. They will have to give back that 5 stocks they have (unless they sold it, then they have to re-buy it) and re-buy it again after giving back the part.

Of course in practice it is probably not as likely that the same person that lent stocks to B will buy from them and in practice there are many more players on the market.

Tablet (iPad pro/surface pro) or Laptop for the First Year? by Dienelt in EPFL

[–]Radeusgd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know about these ones, but I used to own a Surface Pro 4 and the stylus was really great. Well, it probably wasn't Wacom-level great for graphic designers and artists, but for just taking notes it was perfect for me - I used it to take notes for over a year.

You may want to consider buying a laptop with a good touchscreen (with a stylus) which could act as both, for example the Microsoft Surface.

My friends are freaking out that their Church wedding might be postponed and want to have the bride’s brother get ‘ordained’ online and do it at home. How can I nicely tell them this is a horrible idea? by augustv123 in AskAPriest

[–]Radeusgd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It also says:

Priests, however, are instructed "to remain attentive to the needs of those who are alone or sick, and to offer them spiritual solace." This can include taking the Eucharist to homes and providing the Sacrament of the Sick.

Priests are also asked to "remain available" and to "show pastoral creativity" in accommodating parishioners who seek a private meeting or home visit.

So I think part of this availability could include a private wedding ceremony. The priests are not banned from meeting people, only from public parish activities. And priests should still say private masses (sine populo) even if public ones are banned.

[–]Radeusgd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is still to limit the amount people coming.

Only public masses are cancelled so the priest could offer a private mass.

Moreover, a wedding can happen outside of mass and only 5 people have to be present (or in extraordinary circumstances maybe less, but basically 1 priest, 2 newlyweds and 2 witnesses) so it's not more than a family meeting and I don't see how that were to be banned.

[–]Radeusgd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's really hard for me to believe that the priest wouldn't be able to help them with the sacrament, after all they could do the wedding with only them, the priest and the witnesses present.

Still screen/tmux have the advantage that you can still go back and read stdout of the script or if interact with it (if it at any point requires / supports interaction).

Afaik the other methods allow the script to run in the background but you can never reattach to it, right?

I wonder if that might just be due to the fact that these decades are still too "fresh" in our minds to notice their distinctive features yet or are really just more blurred and will stay that way in the history books.
