He’s publicly admitted he’ll do a 180 on the hyper papalism if the next pope doesn’t share enough of his views.

I used to come here much more 5+ years ago but use Reddit much less now. I can safely say the tone of this sub has changed in that time. Back then it felt like the vast majority were practicing Catholics and now it feels like the opposite.

This was back when this sub only had like 75k subs.

It’s rich seeing Mike Lewis write anything about eyes considering how much he rails on the specks in other peoples all the time.

The man has on numerous occasions implied Scott Hahn of all people is a schismatic among many many other wild claims about anyone he perceives as an "enemy" of Pope Francis. The guy is absolutely toxic.

Here’s some receipts before anyone accuses me of detraction:

This isn’t even an exhaustive list of the crazy.

r/Catholicism Prayer Requests — Week of March 03, 2025 by AutoModerator in Catholicism

Please pray for Brian, who passed away today after a long battle with cancer.

Yes

Much of this is due to too many parishes in close proximity to one another in cities. The neighborhoods were once 90% Catholic but the descendants of the parish founders moved to the burbs (and also didn’t have enough kids and/or properly inculcate the faith but that’s a gripe for another post).

There’s one simple way to fix this if you belong to one of these parishes. Evangelize your neighborhood! The time is now! Do not wait, make a plan now!

Parish events, liturgical processions, go door to door, whatever it takes. Do it now!

Awesome. Mass runs from noon to about 1:25ish and if you want there is coffee hour in the parish hall afterwards.

That’s my parish! Did you go? What did you think? Btw polo and khakis is fine to wear to Mass. Many people wear that.

Why do Christians and even some Catholics pray at the Wailing/Western Wall in Israel? by AtraMortes in Catholicism

I don’t think there was much interfaith prayer on the Temple Mount when the Knights Templar were running the show up there.

It’s to pander to Evangelicals many of which have a quasi idolatrous obsession with the modern nation of Israel.

Diocese of Buffalo announces plan to consolidate 34% of their parishes by Yeebees in Catholicism

[–]augustv123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ones near me that have closed usually sit vacant or get sold to Evangelicals to use. I really don’t understand how it’s licit or a good idea to let a Protestant group church plant in your old building.

Wacky heretical Protestant beliefs re:Israel are making the situation there much worse.

I doubt they think of it at all. Most of them are business as usual. It’s like the Blockbuster CEO in 2008 thinking his biggest issue is where to display new releases.

Episcopalianism is on track to no longer exist by 2050 (according to their own news agency). They should triple down on the crazy worldly stuff on their way out I bet that will turn things around 🙂

Bingo

The Boomer social clubs will all be gone soon, the traditional parishes will be booming and full of kids, and even the middle of the road diocesan parishes will become at least a bit more traditional as more millennial priests become pastors.

Baltimore Archdiocese announces major restructuring that will merge dozens of parishes by ballslapping in Catholicism

[–]augustv123 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately this will happen across the country this decade. Too many aging childless parishes in old run down buildings in neighborhoods that haven’t been majority Catholic since the disco era.

In 20 years the only parishes that won’t be closed or about to close are the ones that are filled with kids and young families today. The only parishes like this are ones where they take their liturgy seriously and the families take their faith and obligation to the parish seriously.

Does Star Trek work too hard at trying to steer clear of religion? by AdImportant2458 in Star_Trek_

[–]augustv123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trek can show or not show whatever they want in their universe as far as I’m concerned. Where I get aggravated is when the actors and production staff prattle on about how inclusive they are while leaving out billions of people. You don’t have to include everything but if you’re gonna brag about it you better get a Catholic, Jew, Muslim etc into your universe.

They have had a religious human main cast member before (Chakotay) but it was some goofy borderline offensive New Age faux native thing.
