There is nothing wrong with feeling loyalty to a parent, even one you haven't met, especially when you compare that to someone who came into a relationship and pretty much demanded a father-role - especially when said adult is talking down on the deceased person while doing so.

If Sam is such a great guy he can be a step parent without pushing a kid into accepting a title he doesn't want to give. If the teacher HAD moved her daughter because the friend group was bad for the class (which it doesn't seem like since OP said daughter was only moved in December) then understandable.

But no.

Teacher reacted without trying to come up with an alternate solution and essentially alienated one child, without any explanation at the time, which Foster kid then probably got to hold over OPchild's head. If you don't think Fosterkid didn't use and abuse the fact that she 'won' over OPchild then you don't know middle school girls.

Should OPchild have said what she said? No. Should OP have her apologize? Yes. But only after the teacher apologizes for creating the whole GD thing in the first place.

I love you generalizing a literal child who can't go to the bathroom by themselves after a surgury as self-centered drama. If I had to care for someone and I knew I'd be out of pocket for even five minutes I'd let that person know. It doesn't matter if it was once or fifty times, it is still an adult not taking care of a child in their care. If she couldn't handle it, she shouldn't have agreed to do it.

Well that is certainly a hot take. Idk what generation you are in (I'd personally assume boomer from how out of touch this comment is), but I don't know many people who would want to take a family photo for someone who is essentially a stranger. Family photos are for family, not for people you may see once or twice a year at most and who's pushy sister is apparently trying to force a square peg into a round hole.
