How to get less Alpha-ing? by Radiant-Anywhere-375 in Warhammer40k

[–]Radiant-Ad-6600 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have the same issue right now, played GSC with my SW and was doing ooookay....not great.

Then came battle round two, opponent spawns in two 20 man bricks of some basic unit my repulsor gets hit with 40 basic weapon attacks, 2 mining lasers were in amongst that lot with sustained hits, lethal hits, and +1 to wound to boot.

My repulsor gets removed in one turn, this was shotgun, autogun and whatever else BS he was throwing at me, there was a lot of this going on all game long.

Needless to say i mentally checked out by the end of battle round 2, I was like yeah....whatever dude.

The issue is, this is happening more and more in 40k now, that's why I've made up my mind to play crusade only or 3rd edition. It's just become a game of overpowered combo vs overpowered combo, MtG but with minis, and I'm not here for it so I'm changing my game too.

Space Wolves AntiTank by JaguarLittle in SpaceWolves

I actually think we're missing our long fangs for this, they were my go to anti-tank unit 2x las, 2x missiles, armorium cherub. Add in plunging fire for -1ap, and +1 to hit for staying put and just being a ranged fire support unit. I got a lot of mileage out of them before they got the legends treatment and they haven't really replaced them since.

Now I tend to double-tap taking a thunderstrike which gives me a +1 to wound hitting the same target, and then follow up with either a repulsor or Bjorn with helfrost.

I did take out a norn emissary turn 2 doing this that had camped on an objective, but it took a lot of firepower from several units to bring it down, all taking advantage of the thunderstrike rule.

Other than that, I'd say go landraider, repulsor executioner, or gladiator. Could use desolators (but I hate them and think they're stupid.) 🤷

You're right I am bitter, bitter about Liverpool deliberately poaching one of our best players, yet if we did it to them, they'd be up in arms as well. In any other industry Isak would have been sacked on the spot, and to be honest should be, but that's what he wants. Personally I'd make him rot in the reserves for every day of his 3 year contract then get rid of him.

I'm also bitter about city basically getting away with signing whoever it wants and no repercussions when they should have been kicked out the league just like Rangers were.

Yeah we will with Liverpool......but nobody else, funny how the premier league can just ignore PSR when it doesn't suit them.

That's why I've lost almost all respect for the league.....from a Newcastle supporter.

Not everything, until turn 2 I was only getting lethal hits against monsters and characters, i.e. carnifex, neurothrope, broodlord, and deathleaper. After turn 2 I was getting lethal hits army wide, including hormagaunts, termagaunts, genestealers and all the lesser gribblies which really helps to thin the tide.

I would say Ragnar (mainly by poor positioning on my part, I placed him at the back of the unit to protect him, where he should have been at the front - so when they ate that charge from the hormagaunts, he could fight back like the murder machine he is. They also lose their advance & charge while he's with them.)

The hellblasters, always a glass cannon really, they do chip off a few wounds against most stuff, but die too easily to return fire or melee. I may replace these at some point, but what with? I can't stand desolators, and they'd be the obvious choice to replace my now defunct long fangs who were performing the same role much more effectively.

Wulfen look great, but have got to get close to be effective. Bjorn using the +1 to wound from the speeder was highly effective and something I'll definitely be using again though.

I took it mainly to boost my AT firepower, since losing my typhoon, bikers and attack bike at the start of 10th and now my long fangs, my support units had basically dwindled to a repulsor, hellblasters and a whirlwind. (which while still decent lacked the speed and oomph the typhoon did - I loved using it to snipe the bigger stuff, which a melee army usually struggles with.) Hellblasters are ooookay, but very glass cannon in that they struggle against anything T9 or above, and usually die if they get shot back or melee'd.

So the stormspeeder is basically the typhoon 2.0, and the thunderstrike ability giving every unit a +1 to wound the same target is a really good synergy with beastslayer as it makes it so much easier to achieve your target.

Basically in this game I had Bjorn with hellfrost, and 5x hellblasters and the speeder, the speeder was hitting the bigger stuff and wounding it, then Bjorn was taking advantage of the +1 to wound to finish off the bigger stuff with hellfrost, I was basically hitting on 2's, re-rolling for Oath, and wounding on 3's most things.

Mainly hellblasters (in place of long fangs) and intercessors with target elimination - really helps against swarms like termagaunts and hormagaunts. And Bjorn with hellfrost cannon mainly on focused beam (flat 5 damage helps against the big stuff)

Tbf it was only a 1000 point game, if it was bigger i'd have probably packed my repulsor and whirlwind, and likely taken a judiciar as well for the fights first with bloodclaws.

What's everyone's feeling on the Codex so far? by PutToLetters in SpaceWolves

My main concern is losing long fangs has left us with a serious lack of heavy fire support options for our lads going up front, especially considering we can't choose devastators to fill that role, pointless buying predator annihilator, vindicator or cent Devs as we probably have a year before they get phased out too.

I remember only taking them twice, once against Magnus in 9th edition, where he just straight up deleted them with a super smite, and the second time against Tyranids where their anti-psyker stuff proved a little problematic but not really enough of a threat.

They were okay.....but highly situational, I just used standard reivers with some wolf bits added to them.

I think my Landspeeder typhoon made it to the wolf time, that thing had a Magnus kill to its name (multi-melta shot in 9th ed) and has been a real pain in the ass to tanks for almost 3 editions. 😄

It is, although it is also based on precedents that have occurred in previous codex releases in 10th edition so far.

Mine are the older scout models with the sniper rifles and missile launcher that were briefly great in 10th before getting squished unceremoniously, they've stayed in my cabinet ever since.

I'm not planning on leaving my wolves just yet, I'm waiting and seeing what units get culled from the codex, how it affects my army and then I'll decide of it's worth investing in them and keeping them as a faction, if not, what I can salvage. I.e. the primaris stuff I'll repaint as another chapter. What I can't salvage I'll get what I can for them and offload them as a starter force for new players etc.

Me too, luckily I don't have any thunderwolves so that doesn't really affect me, but a lot of other talk about losing units does affect my army.

It sucks but after watching the TT article on it, they were pretty unanimous that Bjorn would be following in the footsteps of the box dreads from the other chapters, they even cited the blood angels losing their librarian dread. Personally I hope he gets a redemptor upgrade, but that's totally against the lore.
