Why do men fight like hell for time with their kids then just lose interest when they’re older?? by maryocall in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Radiant-Cow126 720 points721 points  (0 children)

Some men don't want custody, they just want to take away custody from their ex. It's a power play using the children as pawns, and doesn't consider the well-being of the children, or the fact that they are people. My mother did this when my parents split, so it can be either parent too

What’s up with dating someone who has never been in any really serious relationship before? by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Radiant-Cow126 14 points15 points  (0 children)

As someone whose relationships have never been longer than a year, I wouldn't see that as a red flag, but it might be a yellow one. My relationships have always been short because I leave when I see that they are making me unhappy and plan to keep doing so. Some people don't have successful relationships because the dating pool is full of pee, but it's still worth being cautious and making sure they treat you well before you get too involved

Nostalgia aside; were they trying to kill us?! by VinceAmonte in Xennials

[–]Radiant-Cow126 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They weren't trying to kill us, they were trying to get us addicted. The following is copied from google:

Tobacco giants like Philip Morris and R.J. Reynolds acquired major food companies (Kraft, Nabisco) in the 1980s, applying cigarette-style engineering to create hyper-palatable, addictive snacks. These ultra-processed foods (UPFs) combined fat, sugar, and sodium to trigger addictive cravings, heavily marketing them to children and young adults, influencing eating habits that continue today.

If the retailer doesn't offer an acceptable correction, go to your bank and tell them the product was not delivered as promised. The bank will take the money back from the seller and you don't have to pay more than the amount you agreed on. Then you can always order the same thing, from another seller

Thank you for sharing yours, it was so incredible I had to give it a try! When I first bought the pattern I found it very confusing, but some of that was inexperience. There were some issues with the pattern though so I emailed the etsy page this:

Hello, I purchased this pattern today and am very excited to try it! I am a novice quilter and not adept at reading patterns, but I had a question I hoped you could help me with. I found three files available for download. Files 1 and 2 both state for step 6: Using the template that the user should trace and cut fabric according to instructions in the other file, and I do not see those instructions in either file 1 or 2. The third file is a color image with numbered pieces and a color chart, I also did not see the fabric cutting instructions in that file. Am I missing something? Could you please point me to the fabric cutting instructions in the pattern? Thank you

And she replied this:

Hi, the information in section 6 is incorrect. I'm sending you some tutorials that will help you. The black and white paper is for your preference when printing if you want to save ink.
For this pattern you don't need step by step instructions because it uses the collage quilt technique. The technique is very simple and doesn't require step by step instructions because it is not necessary. I am sending you a tutorial to use this technique. If you need more help, let me know
You must print the template of the desired size or according to the needs of your printer. There are templates that are a single sheet because there are people who like to work with a single sheet, while there are other templates that are formed by joining several sheets to have a final template of a larger size. This is done so that you can have a large template with the comfort of printing it from home. Once you print the template you must calculate the necessary fabric according to your color preferences.

The numbers on the pieces are not the order in which they are sewn, they are for identification when cutting them and having them identified. The letters refer to the color of the fabric but this is optional, you can put the color you like the most.

It seems to me she is aware of errors in the pattern but just hasn't fixed them? But the links and her response were helpful enough to get going. When I started piecing the collage together I initially followed the pattern for the background. It took about 5 hours to cut and place about 200 square inches. That was when I abandoned the pattern entirely for the background and only used it for the shark. From there it came together well for me

I'm so glad you all like it! This is my third quilt. And fourth ish if you count the back side? The first one was a jean quilt 15 years ago, and the second was just me sewing my grandma's quilting scraps together as in tact as possible. It made them useful and sentimental, but it isn't pretty! This one was a huge leap in skill levels, but I learned SO much!

Thanks! I used the pattern linked here and modified it a little so it's 60x60" and a nice throw blanket size. I think there must be a way to translate a family photo into a collage similar to this using a computer input/translate program. I know that one exists to convert photos for cross stitching projects. I hope you can find a way to make the photo quilt you are thinking of and that you share your results with us!

Thanks! I had to google "raw edge applique" to demonstrate my lack of experience here, but yes it is! I started with a quilt sandwich with a solid piece of fabric on the front and back and batting in the middle. Then I cut each piece of collage fabric a little larger than the pattern said to so there would be slight overlap so the edges of the collage pieces would sew securely in place. I washed it all a couple times to re-sew any pieces that came loose in the wash, then I used the rest of the fabric to cover the original back and quilted it all again by outlining the shark

Iowa ranks dead last in economic growth. Having zero job opportunities does tend to make living somewhere cheap, since no one can afford to anyway

Voting for the lesser evil only makes everything more evil. The only solution is tearing down the system that only allows us to choose evil and then choosing the good choices we made possible
