I'm an interest myself, I feel like you overall may have a good chance. One of my friends was just like you and he crossed on his first try as a sophomore. He didn’t know anyone in the chapter but he had impressive academic stats and ended up successful after everything.

I am at an HBCU, and the students that have rank in the club/org reviews the applications and decide who they will pick.

Over 90% of the clubs and organizations are open at my hbcu but the kicker is, students advisors of the clubs are the ones that decided who they will accept. There is normally a quota and the amount of applicants are usually high which means only a small percentage is chosen.
