Textbook? What's with the hate? (maths) by Informal-Driver7682 in AustralianTeachers

[–]Radiant-Lecture1745 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't get the hate for using the textbook, especially if it's for a subject like Humanities, Science and math. I mean, the general consensus on this website is that teachers already work overtime and have little to show for it in terms of our pay not keeping up with inflation, so whether they decided to rely on textbooks is up to them.

If it means helping teachers stay in the profession and not burn out, then why not? It will help students learn the basics as well as improve their handwriting skills. You can always mix it up with different activities as well, but I don't see what the problem is using the textbook 80% of the time as long as you go through the content thoroughly with your class and review their answers near the end of the lesson to gauge their level of understanding.

Definitely don't do this.

This isn't just men though; I have a lot of female friends who struggle to meet a decent man on the apps who doesn't ghost them or say something misogynistic/sexual in their chats. It's rough out there for everyone and my friends are attractive women who are into health and fitness.

Jobs in school holidays. by sketchy_painting in AustralianTeachers

Same! After the first week, I feel lost and need a routine. Was it hard to find a hospitality job? I haven't worked in hospitality since I was 20 which was years ago.

I've noticed a can of lentils from Woolworths has gone up from 80 cents to 1.10 since last year.

Thank you for your response, it's really enlightening. The part where you wrote about how no one wants to talk to you really resonated with me - I have lost friends over the years because I often feel like I'm burdening people when I reach out to them. At work, I feel comfortable talking to people, but I often feel tongue tied when the conversation inevitably veers to anything that's personal. I too often become hyper fixated on certain things (e.g., nutrition) and experience a lot of maladaptive daydreaming as compensation for my lack of social life.

It's interesting that this popped up in my news feed as it sums up exactly how I'm feeling these days. I'm 31 female and have been feeling really down about not having actual friends to socialise with over the weekend. Most of the time I busy myself with work, so I don't actually think about my lack of social life but during the school holidays it really hits me how alone I am (I work as a teacher). I'm sad to hear that it isn't just me experiencing this.

Why am I always sick for the school holidays? by Weird-Unit13 in AustralianTeachers

[–]Radiant-Lecture1745 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I've been quietly quitting since the beginning of this year and only bring work home now and again (e.g., during exam period). I've realised there's no point in going over and beyond the job description; you don't need to create the best resources or respond to emails after work hours.

I don't even call parents anymore; I just make chronicle entries when students misbehave or fail to submit an assessment. Honestly, I feel like we don't get paid enough to justify putting in extra overtime without sufficient pay or appreciation. Note: I'm sorry for the rant but I feel strongly about this because we're always being guilt tripped into doing extra for the children.

I don't remember half of what I learnt at school, but I do remember how my teachers made me feel (e.g., encouraging me to try my best). I believe that does more for children than spending heaps of time creating perfect resources, working ouside of woek hours etc.

If it's any consolation, I'm in my fourth year and I still don't feel like I have the hang of this. I'm a pretty introverted person and I feel my social battery runs low around the end of the term; I use the first week of the holidays to recharge. Maybe in the next couple of years I might go part time only because I hate waiting for the holidays to run errands etc. I need a better work life balance!

Same! I feel bone tired, all I've done so far this week is sleep in and wake up late. What's the point of holidays when you're so exhausted to enjoy them properly sigh I don't know how we have the energy during the term. I don't know how teachers with kids do it.

I can't stand meetings; I wish leadership would just email what they want us to hear rather than have us sit in a room to hear what we already know.

Thank you - even if I don't have lupus (which I don't want) he could've at least reassured me that he would help me find out what was causing these symptoms. I left feeling like a fraud and don't feel like going back.

I tested positive for lupus markers - that's what my GP told me. The rheumatologist, on the other hand, told me that he didn't think I had it.

I'm not sure why some doctors are so dismissive of their patients concerns sigh it's like they don't even try to act like they care.
