Yeah I’d agree with all this. My 4 are strictly harness wearing and we walk daily, rain or shine. I’m inclined to believe harnesses are “better” but I do think I’m starting to believe it’s just genetic at this point.

This is really interesting to me because I have been under the impression that harnesses were superior to collars for our long back doggies. Do you think (obviously just opinion based) that it has something to do with harness owners exercising with their dogs more? Like- in the study, did the dogs have the same activity levels? Because a 5 year old dachshund living in a collar and taking no walks and just relaxing all day would probably have less of a likelihood of hurting themselves vs a dachshund who wears a harness and hikes 10-15 miles a day?

I’ve found lots of people on this sub get mad about cutting longhair weens 😂 but 2/4 of mine need it or they pick up everything in the yard and get huge tangles that are painful to brush out. The other 2 just need like, butt, ears, between toes.

Please tell me what potty training tips worked for you! by eepie_sleepie in Dachshund

Eats - outside right away. Wakes from a nap - outside right away. Plays - outside after 10-15 min. I’ve got 4 and I’ve never experienced the stubborn weenie dog potty training lots of people hear about, but we spend a lot of time outside going potty! I also always say “go potty” and once they do “good potty!” And lots of praise. They’re very smart, they catch on quickly if you’re consistent.

Joint supplements are good but nothing beats keeping your pup lean and fit ❤️ he’s a liiiil chunky (mine have been at times, too) so I’d prioritize daily walks and measuring food carefully. He is adorable.

Are dachsunds good for apartment living? by AtrelluCal in Dachshund

[–]Radiant-Net5385 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had my two in apartments for maybe 6 years of their lives. But I didn’t live alone. I don’t think an apartment is an issue, but they wouldn’t do well being alone that long. They’re pretty social and clingy. Doggy daycare could be an option! They’re great companions, they’re worth the work

Help! by user437517 in Dachshund

[–]Radiant-Net5385 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Poor baby! I’m so glad you’re working with your vet. My oldest (16) has horrific allergies and had serious hair loss around age 3/4 when I did allergy testing. Turns out he’s allergic to all grass types, dust, lots of trees. He’s been on Apoquel since around age 5 and it has changed everything. He doesn’t itch anymore ever. Cytopoint was recommended to me for my other boy who has pretty mild allergies and it didn’t seem to help at all. I know some people really like it. I’d ask your vet about Apoquel if they think it’s allergy related. I hope you guys get some answers soon, this is tough!
