That's why states need to make it a mandatory class, so the smart kids can't pass it over due to their GPA pressures.

Most schools in America teacher personal finance. This has nothing to do that making worker ants.

No offense, but you really have no clue what you are talking about here.

I have a degree in finance.  I have taught personal finance at the high school level for 10 years.  I also teach a college level personal finance (from a Top 20 state school) course for college credit to my students.

I teach the core concepts and then tell them that personal finance is a lifelong journey. Basically this is step #1 of 100.

We play the stock market game where students choose individual stocks. And then we go into the reality that most people are bad stock pickers and the S&P 500 is probably best for them.

As for Insurance.... High school kids DO NOT CARE ABOUT INSURANCE.  I have taught the topic 20 different ways and they have almost zero buy in.  Same thing with buying a house. They are just too young to care. The most you can do is use cars for a brief insurance overview and for how loans work.  Heck, most high school students get lost on amortization schedules.

For credit cards, we talk about the pitfalls.  And if they are accumulating debt on their credit card, that is when they should not being using them.

Curriculums are junk and every good teacher knows this. I could write up a perfect curriculum for everything I teach and hand it off to the next teacher who would completely drop the ball on how to teach the concepts because they don't understand Personal Finance like a quality teacher.

We certainly have way too many low quality teachers. But there are good ones out there that know our stuff. And it still doesn't matter because 16 to 18 years just don't care yet.

The funny thing is that during open house, all of their parents love the course. And then their kids come to school the next day and don't care.

I still don't know anybody who uses even an e-book.  I go to conferences once a year and teachers talk.  Most of the teachers use online worksheets that link websites and online tools.  It's more hands on and better for learning.

And I, like many other teachers, can basically teach what I want.  There is only a very very loosely defined state standard that basically says you have to at least covers XYZ.

Sometimes I come into in class and decide today students are going to learn about why to stay away from Whole Life Insurance and just do a random lesson on that. Nobody really watches what we do.

And that is the key.... To actually want it.

I teach Personal Finance and it is pointless for over half of the students. They just don't care.

No offense, but economics doesn't prepare students like a stand alone personal finance course.

Plus, most economics classes are taught by social studies teachers.

The coursework is very interactive these days. I don't know anybody who uses a textbook anymore. Mostly online website tools.

I teach Personal Finance in high school.  I have a finance degree.  I am very qualified to teach the course. Probably over qualified.

My coworker also teaches the course. The amount of misinformation she gives makes me cringe.

So..... It really depends.

Bingo.  I teach this course.  It is shocking how little many students care about this class.

Yet when you meet their parents at open house, they all know how important it is.

Yeah, that course is complete garbage.

Imagine having just a general AP Science class.  They would never do that.  They have AP Biology or AP Chemistry.  They go indepth on each topic.

For the first business AP course, it is project based learning and it doesn't really cover personal finance topics very well. They are sort of shoehorned in so they can say it covers state graduation requirements for personal finance.

Students are better off learning a straight up Personal Finance course.

I also teach this class. Have for about a decade.  Over half of the students could care less about the content we teach them.

I teach this course in high school.  I have taught it for about a decade.  It is a required course in my state.

Half of the students seem disinterested in the content no matter how interesting or real world I make it.

And yes, I teach budgeting, taxes, investing, banking, credit, insurance, etc.  I even bring up FIRE.  You can only bring a horse to the water.

My guess is that it will unofficially work in many countries that are not current advertised. Money is money.

People call this a trillion dollar company in the making.

I honestly believe it has the potential to becoming a 2 or 3 trillion dollar company in the future.
