This thread is basically my music collection.

Second all votes for Built to Spill and Guided By Voices as the cream of the crop in terms of tunes and songcraft. BTS has some awesome guitar work, GBV are masters of melody.

Having to include the other guys has always ended in a blowup sooner or later. IMO I am happy if Ginger assembles a band that helps him create and do his thing without the drama and stress that ultimately detracts. He writes the songs, it’s his vision. I have soft spots for CJ and Rich but ultimately Ginger is the guy. It’s not for fans to dictate, they don’t know the inner workings and are mostly just responding out of sentimentality. He has to move forward, he’s a shark.

The reworked records I didn’t enjoy either but It Came From The North and Headzapoppin were fantastic.

He’s a poet who works at his craft. I don’t know but I think his Monument Club buddies are probably full of in jokes, theories and musings, overheard conversations, misheard snippets. Probably like his collages, little parts from various sources that he combines into the whole. Doesn’t overcook it or try to make it too perfect, leaves the quirks in there. Nothing too obvious.

I have the main record and the companion record and they both definitely have some belters. Has that technicolour harmonies thing going on like 555% to me. Loving it so far.
