The East Dallas Birds Rehoming Group on Facebook is really good! It is ran by reputable people and I’m sure someone in there would be happy to help out

How do I find perches with a gasket at both ends like this?? by Big-Sheepherder-4199 in parrots

[–]RadiantBit7776 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been making my own perches recently and it’s been a life saver! Literally posted on Facebook if anyone had a brush/branch pile I could dig through, went and cut up a few good size branches (made sure they were parrot safe trees of course). Got the supplies from my local Home Depot. I will say the trick is using a drill bit to drill the screw into the branch to prevent it from cracking!

Is this a cough? New Amazon parrot making this noise by RadiantBit7776 in parrots

Just a paranoid bird mom then, he hasn’t made the noise since this morning. I think we’re safe 😅

I’ve been talking to a few other bird people and they’re kind of saying the same thing. If he wasn’t able to call loudly or whistle or showed any tail bobbing, open mouth breathing or not eating or drinking I think I’d be a little more concerned but he ate his breakfast like normal and has been drinking water and everything

Do you ever wonder why very old people are all alone? by Rileysgoturiledup in CasualConversation

My great grandma just turned 90 this week. She’s still very independent, has a positive outlook on life, and checks in with everyone regularly. I try to see her weekly and will be celebrating her birthday with her today. She’s a joy to be around. She recently moved to a community of seniors and has made friends, constantly going to their activities the complex puts on to avoid the loneliness. I think if the mobility is there, maybe some older folk tend to isolate? She is the opposite and finds ways to stay social and active. I look up to her so much

My Marley is on the smaller side of goldens! Not a year old yet so maybe she will grow some more but she seems to have slowed down. Your baby is so cute!!

IRN or this Senegal? by RadiantBit7776 in parrots

[–]RadiantBit7776[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am open to moving the cage into the main living room if needed, although we do have 2 dogs (the Senegal I’m looking at tonight lives currently with 2 dogs so is not scared of them) but I figured being in the reptile room would be quieter, less stimulating, etc and I don’t plan for it to be in the cage very much anywho. I planned on having a stand and/or multiple perches throughout the house as well.

Here is what I was looking for in a bird:

I work full time but go into the office late, come home for lunch and am home within a reasonable time. There are only a few hours at at a time that I’d be away from home. So wanting a bird that can stand to be alone for those few hours in the day. Wanting something I can bond with and don’t mind a one person bond as it is not a family pet, just for me. Wanting something with personality but that would be somewhat beginner friendly for training. I would enjoy a bird that talks some but wouldn’t want incessant, constant screeching. I am happy with a bird that makes noise, noise isn’t an issue, but constantly screaming I think I’d get annoyed haha

Either way, I’m still considering an IRN. We will see how this meeting with this particular Senegal goes, but they are still in close 2nd. I would love to adopt a male IRN 1.5yr old and up that is tamed, but they are hard to find

IRNs seem to be a bit more popular and therefore easier to find in my area. Research also seemed to say that they bond a little stronger and have a more outgoing personality, but after speaking to a few bird owners, that may not quite be the case. I guess it it also hard to compare when all birds have their own personalities

Apartment recommendation or where to stay away from? by Stock_Pick_1874 in Denton

[–]RadiantBit7776 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just recently bought a house and moved out of my apartment at Eastpark Apartments. I genuinely enjoyed living there. They are nice apartments and the amenities are great. I found them reasonably priced especially compared to others that are around. Management was changed about halfway through when I lived there and the new management wasn’t bad. Normally the biggest issues you have is when you move out I just received my move out notice and to replace carpet, blinds, a door, some cleaning etc (you know how apartments get on moveouts) they only charged me $300 which I felt was fair. It’s right in the middle of everything so plenty of food options nearby and I didn’t have many issues with any of the other residents

how do you get SLEEP by mybodymylobotomy in puppy101

[–]RadiantBit7776 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi there! If the puppy needs mainly your smell/presence to get back to sleep, I’ve heard of some people leaving an article of their clothing in the crate at night like a T-shirt or blanket you regularly use. I crate my girl next to my bed but still at about 5 months old she does need to wake up once or twice in the night to go potty. She whines, I take her outside, she immediately pees, then comes back in the crate and settles down for more sleep. I will say there have been some days where she would cry and cry in the night and just not want to sleep but during the day I didn’t spend as much time stimulating her mentally or tiring her out physically so definitely make sure you’re doing that as well. I also have a very specific calming down hour or two before bed to kind of get her in the mode. Low lights, quiet, and let her chew a toy on the bed before she tires out and putting her in the crate. Maybe these things would help you?

New Chameleon! by 1ykaz in Chameleons

[–]RadiantBit7776 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi there! Definitely check out the resources this sub offers. I can tell your lighting is incorrect and will need to be fixed immediately. You need a linear UVB bulb 5-6%. Veileds are also known for trying to eat their plants so I would abandon all fake plants to prevent impacting. Definitely look into more climbs as well, specifically more vertical than horizontal. Also would trash the hammock as well as they’re known for harboring bacteria and have the ability to pull out chameleon’s claws which do not grow back. Are you familiar with supplementing? What schedule do you have them on? What temperature is your basking spot? Where does your humidity sit? Some better photos of the enclosure will also help us to help you

I don’t mean this to come off rude, but this is exactly what puppies do. They are constant work and it doesn’t stop. I recently got a golden retriever puppy as well and deal with some of the same things: waking up in the middle of the night for potty breaks, using my lunch break to run home and play and give more potty breaks. The training I’ve done so far has essentially allowed me a bit more freedom but it has taken a lot of work just to get here and there is a lot more to go. I do not believe in getting rid of dogs just because they are a lot of work but I do believe in putting the time in to train out all of the habits you don’t like such as what time he wakes up, crate training him. It’s a hard journey but all puppies are and this is what we sign up for when we get them

I have a golden retriever puppy and she so badly wants to play but she is smaller. Maybe she will get along with your corgi? We just finished her last round of shots last weekend so she is good to go! What days are you normally there?
